This was a particularly enjoyable audiobook. Dr. Sterling is not only the author, but she is also the reader. She speaks clearly and adds life to the content. I found the book so engaging, that I was actually responding to some commentary aloud. 6 hours after having purchased the audiobook, I was finished. I hadn't even realized that I listened to the entire audiobook until I heard the closing. I finished it in an afternoon and felt satisfied that I understood the content.
Dr. Sterling expertly weaves her life story into this book along with multiple cases. She has personal experience, has studied and has helped others through this process. Her book is easy to understand. It's not filled with unnecessary claims or commentary that can detract from her main points. At the end of each chapter there is a reflection and things to practice.
I have read countless books in this genre, many of which spend an inordinate amount of pages explaining what they are going to tell you. Other books frequently don't fully deliver what the reader hopes to learn and understand. This can be especially frustrating after putting in the time and focused attention necessary to learn more about oneself.
I recommend this book to anyone that wants to understand themselves better and especially for anyone that has emotional trauma and chronic suffering.
