what is the sudden focus on rape?

rape and fear of rape was in every single chapter, no matter which point of view was in use. there were literally entire sentences that were repeated later in the book, and some I recognized from repeated use in previous books. I get the idea that some phrases are used almost as "branding", especially in ghost written series, but.... is AI writing these now? if you edited out the endlessly repeated wordiness this book would have been an hour long. what has happened to this series?!?

A-team in fairytale land

how i miss editors. the idea for this is valid. the skill of execution? not so much. it truly feels like the 1980's show, A-team, set in historic fairytales. each chapter is a different fairytale. the writing is juvenile and brash. characters are incomplete and vague. this could have been a fun if the author had taken more time to develop skill and worked with a good editor to pull it all together.

it is so hard to read books about fighting and survival from people who have never been off the pavement or outside a video game. you throw two hammers in someone's face and hit them with a third, they duck none of them and you only damage their nose? if you have any life experience beyond middleschool, don't waste your money on this.

Good writer, woke storyline

its not fair to completely burden this book with this observation, but ..... it really feels like there was a good story written and then someone INSISTED homosexuality and singular use of plural pronouns be interjected before publication. these elements of the plot feel ...... awkward and posturing. all of the recently published fantasy seems to be plagued by these same ..... social posturing elements. is there a new rule in publishing that a certain percentage of characters or pages must be dedicated to modern sexual thought even if it detracts from the story, plot and character development?

an old story well told

i have to admit to nostalgia influencing this review. my grandmother read this to me as a child. twice. i know modern readers will consider it slow and boring with a lack of killing and blood, but there was a time when books weren't so dependant on gore. this is a wonderful romp of imagination for young children, or world-weary adults.... and one can never forget the ugly-wuglies.

a fun read

ok. I was going to quit on this series because it started dragging along inventing stuff to complicate the plot. but the end is actually worth the wait. its a fun light read with a positive ending. and it doesnt read like a video game.

not a boring history lesson

this is probably the easiest read of any of the church histories I've read. it doesn't pretend to be exhaustive, but it does give a good overview of the different events in history that have shaped the Christian view. it's also nice to get a worldwide perspective rather than just a local one.

disappointing

this series has been going downhill for awhile, but has reached the "author is a teenage gamer" level. i dont know who the ghostwriter is for this book, but .... even for a fantasy lover its hard to suspend disbelief when a girl stumbles on a functional flying city that is 1,000 years old and she knows how to fly it without any instruction and no previous experience with any of the technology.
