Historia
Mrs. Hawkins, the majestic narrator of A Far Cry from Kensington, takes us well in hand and leads us back to her threadbare years in postwar London. There, as a fat and much admired young war widow, she spent her days working for a mad, near-bankrupt publisher (“of very good books”) and her nights dispensing advice at her small South Kensington rooming house. At work and at home Mrs. Hawkins soon uncovered evil: shady literary doings and a deadly enemy; anonymous letters, blackmail, and suicide.

Intriguing Developments
Revisado: 04-10-25
A bit of a mystery but the ending seemed abrupt and a little less than satisfying. I did appreciate her anecdotes of “advice for anyone” enveloped in the storyline. I enjoyed the narration. Would listen again…for free.

Historia
Four months have passed since the shadow stone fell into Kell's possession. Four months since his path crossed with Delilah Bard. Four months since Rhy was wounded and the Dane twins fell, and the stone was cast with Holland's dying body through the rift, and into Black London. In many ways, things have almost returned to normal, though Rhy is more sober, and Kell is now plagued by his guilt.

Excellent Follow Up to A Darker Shade of Magic
Revisado: 01-03-25
Good story line and cliff hanger ending but the narration took some serious getting used to! The narration by both male and female characters were bland by significant comparison to the first book narration. If the story line wasn’t so good and I wasn’t so invested in the first book, I definitely would not have kept listening. Overall, it was worth the credit and I will definitely be listening to book 3. Enjoy!

Historia
Kell is one of the last Travelers - magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel universes. As such, he can choose where he lands. There's Grey London, dirty and boring, without any magic, ruled by a mad King George. Then there's Red London, where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire. There's White London, ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. And once upon a time, there was Black London...but no one speaks of that now.

Magical Friendship
Revisado: 12-09-24
Great storyline. Relatively unpredictable which I like woven with humor between the main characters. I liked that they became and stayed friends and stayed true to their core characteristics to the end rather than becoming a couple. Well narrated which supported the storyline. Would listen to again.

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Great story line with lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing. Warm-hearted despite the ever-present threat of war. I preferred the previous narrator, but this one was fine. Looking forward to the next book!

Historia
In a sprawling mansion filled with peculiar treasures, January Scaller is a curiosity herself. As the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke, she feels little different from the artifacts that decorate the halls: carefully maintained, largely ignored, and utterly out of place. Then she finds a strange book. A book that carries the scent of other worlds and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure, and danger. Each page turn reveals impossible truths about the world, and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own.

Time Travel Portals
Revisado: 12-08-23
Overall good story. Disappointing description of the reunion. Felt brushed over. The whole storyline goal was for those moments. Where was the detail? Otherwise the story was quite descriptive. Narration seemed a little more melancholy throughout than needed, but perhaps intended.

Historia
Caroline Wilton has no time for romance. She’s too busy running her family’s bar to even think about dating. She’s also one of Starfall Point’s resident witches, responsible for keeping the local ghost population in check. But even the most magical of witches can use a shoulder to lean on, which is what happens when Ben Hoult, the handsome doctor she never quite got over, walks back into her life. Ben is a single dad now, and as he and Caroline reconnect, they discover that they both have a knack for helping and protecting the people near and dear to them.

Good Sequel
Revisado: 12-07-23
I enjoyed this one and the one before it. Tied it together nicely so listeners to one or both could appreciate it. Continued the frequently unpredictable storyline.
Not too scary but enough mystery to keep it interesting. Pop culture references were on point and fun.
Another lighthearted mystery. Looking forward to the next one!

Drawing from her work as a psychoanalyst and cantadora (keeper of old stories), Dr. Estes uses myths and folktales to illustrate how societies systematically strip away the feminine spirit. Encouraging and Profound
Revisado: 12-05-23
Narration is like listening to a beloved therapist. She provides insights and encouragement through memorable premises of fairy tales and legendary stories. The Match Girl & The Tiger’s Eyelash will stay with me for some time. Will listen again for those messages & lessons which I need but didn’t stick this time around. I will show myself patience. Enjoy the journey!

Narration Voices were Confusing
Revisado: 11-28-23
I really liked the storyline. It was unusual, quirky and often unexpected. What was also unexpected was when the narrator did the Edison voice, he also did Riley’s voice and it was different than the Riley voice we had just become accustomed to. It was confusing as to who was saying what when it was his turn to do the narration. It seemingly could have easily been done differently if it had been better coordinated. Otherwise, I enjoyed the story and am looking forward to the sequel.

Historia
Twenty-seven-year-old Josey Cirrini is sure of three things: winter in her North Carolina hometown is her favorite season, she's a sorry excuse for a Southern belle, and sweets are best eaten in the privacy of her hidden closet. For while Josey has settled into an uneventful life in her mother's house, her one consolation is the stockpile of sugary treats and paperback romances she escapes to each night.

Although it was mostly a predictable storyline, it was good enough to listen to it entirely. Narration was reasonable.
