Historia
Jean McConville's abduction was one of the most notorious episodes of the vicious conflict known as The Troubles. Everyone in the neighborhood knew the I.R.A. was responsible. But in a climate of fear and paranoia, no one would speak of it. In 2003, five years after an accord brought an uneasy peace to Northern Ireland, a set of human bones was discovered on a beach. McConville's children knew it was their mother when they were told a blue safety pin was attached to the dress--with so many kids, she had always kept it handy for diapers or ripped clothes.

Terrific writer and research
Revisado: 10-28-21
Heartbreaking chroni7of a very dark time. The writer humanizes the people we've only read about in sensational headlines. Tells the backstory and aftermath. I couldn't put this book down. The narration was heavily accented but authentic and able to be understood. One of the best historical non-fiction books I've read in quite awhile.

At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

I was a bit skeptical at first. Not sure of a mystery written by the author of the Harry Potter books, but no problem there. An excellent story, excellent narration, and Deputy involved right up to the end. I will definitely read the next one in this series if there is one.

I didn't know if I would adjust to a Gamache mystery without 3 Pines in the story.
No need to worry, ...
Louise Penny is at her best in this complex story set in Paris.
All the characters I love are here as well as some new ones. I tried to pace myself so I could save some of the story, but I couldn't stop listening to it.

Great story. I like stories that span family histories. This one has many layers and keeps the two sisters at the heart of it.

Historia
For maverick LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch, the body in the drainpipe at Mulholland Dam is more than another anonymous statistic. This one is personal...because the murdered man was a fellow Vietnam "tunnel rat" who had fought side by side with him in a hellish underground war. Now Bosch is about to relive the horror of Nam. From a dangerous maze of blind alleys to a daring criminal heist beneath the city, his survival instincts will once again be tested to their limit.

Historia
This is the bizarre tale of 12 young American soldiers who are deployed to Iraq in the summer of 2006. Rather than fight the enemy in combat, the men are unexpectedly assigned to guard the country's notorious leader - Saddam Hussein - in the months leading to his execution. Living alongside and caring for their "high-value detainee" in a former palace dubbed The Rock and regularly transporting him to his raucous trial, many of the men begin questioning some of their most basic assumptions.
