As usual, an inventive and surprising story from Alison Weir, ably performed by Rosalyn Landor. Your heart will ache for this woman who came from a far-off land to become Henry the Eight's fourth wife.

The story is well-known. However, author Alison Weir adds depth and humanity to the tragic tale of Anne Boleyn. As always, Rosalyn Landor's performance is excellent.

Typically engrossing story of Catherine Howard, Henry VIII's fifth wife. As told here, her story becomes a very human one and very entertainingly told!

Continuation of Weir's Elizabeth I story. She weaves fact with fiction in a totally plausible and very entertaining tale of politics and life in the Tudor court.

Brings Tudor times to life. Controversial theory on one aspect of Elizabeth's early life is fascinating. Wonderful narration by Rosalyn Landor.

Somewhat fanciful plot is enhanced by Ms. Waters' always stylish and atmospheric writing about Victorian London. Ms. McMahon narration is evocative and passionate. Enjoyable listen!

Henry VIII's last queen, Katherine Parr, has a fascinating story which relatively few people know. This book brings her to life in a colorful, and ultimately tragic, tale of survival and love in Tudor England.

The Tragedy of Lady Jane Grey

Revisado: 07-21-21

Noted historian Alison Weir's first novel is a gripping and ultimately tragic tale of Lady Jane Grey, Queen of England for nine days. As dramatized by the author, you see the complex familial and political intrigue of Tudor England and appreciate what a loss the early death of this talented and learned young woman turned out to be. The narration is done by an expressive cast which adds drama and emotion to the usual audio book format of a single narrator.

I only wish the novel had included what Ms. Weir normally includes in her non-fiction works - an epilogue of what happened to the other characters in the book and some historical context.

Highly recommend.

Fascinating Insight Into A Hidden World

I'd seen the TV series before listening to the book, so I had the general outline of the story. I found the book to be a rich tapestry of language delving into a life which few of us get to see. The story itself is rather conventional - new graduate goes to the Big City for a new life and discovers it. What sets "Sweetbitter" apart is the sensuality of the dining experience and the food, and the vivid wordplay o human drama in a high-end urban eatery.

If you're looking for world-shattering events, high political intrigue, superheroes, and/or a happy ending, this is NOT the book for you. But if you want a unique insight into one woman's gritty foray into New York City without the "Sex and the City" glitz and hype, you'll be richly rewarded!

Narrator Alex McKenna has just the right tone and rhythm for this urban fairy tail and does an excellent job. It was a true listening pleasure...
