Historia
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

The pain of the children
Revisado: 04-30-25
I think it was a typical Stephen King story but he didn’t let you fall into caring about any individual people too much before all hell broke loose
But I really like most of his stories and I’ve been reading them since he started publishing, seeing the movies, etc. I loved his jab on Trump at the end. Very funny.

Disturbing!!!
Revisado: 03-09-25
All of it! I thought this book looked promising but quickly I was a bit put off by the dynamic between the mother and daughter. The entire story was difficult to follow as it jumped back and forth in ten year segments or more. I’m not a reader of spooky, unstable personality traits as a rule and this story just isn’t something I need to spend my time on. It was annoying to follow and upsetting to try to digest.
I so very rarely fail to finish a book once I have started but I just can’t listen to another chapter. I am so disappointed in all of it, I really thought this might be fun but certainly not for me.

Historia
Nora Noone’s father was many things to many people. To the public he was a self-made titan of industry, whose luxury boutique hotels were among the most coveted destinations in the world. To his three ex-wives, he was a loving yet distant family man who managed to keep his finances—and his families—separate. But, to Nora, he was always a mystery—especially after his suspicious death at his cliffside home.

Strong Women
Revisado: 01-09-25
The story could’ve been fleshed out and there could’ve been less pondering and less road trip. All in all it was a good premise and easy to listen to the performance was good although at times a bit ponderous when trying to sound like a man. It held my interest which is of paramount importance.

She does it again
Revisado: 08-01-24
There was nothing I disliked and as usual Catherine Steadman has brought fourth and engrossing story with many interesting aspects. I have never read anything that she has written or performed, and not immediately enjoyed it, and while she did not perform this particular story, the woman who did was stellar in her performance. Well done everyone.

I think the excellent performance by both artist lended so much to this story which was already very interesting.
Revisado: 07-11-24
I truly liked the story and I very much like the two women who read it. It was so believable and someways other way you think oh that could never happen but perhaps it could and it’s that kind of question that is so interesting to me. I like the setting and the people involved, all the way from the children to their grandmother I found them believable interesting and very important to the story itself. I will read this again at some point because I have a tendency to stay very busy while I’m listening and I think I’ve missed parts, but it’s too soon to read it right away for me so I will give it a little while and then I will reengage. Do yourself a favor and get this title I think it’s well worth the money and the time spent.

A Bit of a Disappointment
Revisado: 05-26-24
This story missed the mark with unnecessary explanations regarding people ie: being directed on where and what to sit on, That is a small example of the unnecessary fluff the author thought important. The performer had such an odd way of portraying men’s voices, they all sounded stoned or recovering from hangovers. The story initially had promise just didn’t deliver.

I liked it, but it was more of a young adult novel, which I certainly am not, but it’s a good story and keeps you engaged enough, but not overly invested so that you can’t do your gardening while you listen. Very well read by the artist performing.

Historia
It was four o'clock in the morning. A young woman pushed through the hospital doors. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child - and in a way, she was. She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news.

I have no idea why I bought this book or at least I had no idea. I started listening to it, and I found myself hurrying up to be able to hear more and I was compelled by the family and the situation. The writing is tight the story is interesting and the ending is magnificent. I recommend this precious heart wrenching story to everyone.

Revisado: 02-02-24
I’m not sure that if I’d picked up the book and read it, I would’ve felt any differently. The narrators voice and style was such that I just couldn’t get past the whole thing. It could just be true that it is not the type of book I enjoy. I know Lisa Wingate is a tremendous writer and I have enjoyed things she has done in the past, but I have never listened to one of her audibles.
