After struggling to finish this I am glad it's the last book in the series. It's very different from the other books in the long series. Save your credit. I tried to return it and it seems that I can't because I finished it. I won't be listening to it a second time.

Historia
Born to a pioneering family in Upstate New York in the late 1800s, Allene Tew was beautiful, impetuous, and frustrated by the confines of her small hometown. At eighteen, she met Tod Hostetter at a local dance, having no idea that the mercurial charmer she would impulsively wed was heir to one of the wealthiest families in America. But when he died twelve years later, Allene packed her bags for New York City. Never once did she look back.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The story is OK overall. It's worth a Kristen.
What didn’t you like about Teri Schnaubelt’s performance?
Allen's just happens to be my name. Teri gets it right about 5 per cent of the time. If she got it right 5 percent of the time she might have been able to get it right all of the time.

the politics get in the way of the syory
Revisado: 03-17-18
The author makes constant political comments about the free market and the left wing and anything else political he can lay his hands on. it got in the way of any story there might be between the comments. this. was a horrible experience.

Historia
Less than three months after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and inflamed the nation, President Roosevelt signed an executive order declaring parts of four western states to be a war zone operating under military rule. The US Army immediately began rounding up thousands of Japanese-Americans, sometimes giving them less than 24 hours to vacate their houses and farms. For the rest of the war, these victims of war hysteria were imprisoned in primitive camps.

Great book. Performance not so much.
Revisado: 05-10-17
What a wonderful voice James Yaegashi has. This seems to be my common complaint in most books set in or about California. Pronounce the names correctly please. Tanforan wasn't pronounced correctly even once but it was pronounced incorrectly several different ways. If you are a local it's San Peeeedro. It's not San Paydro and so on an so forth. I grew up in San Pedro so I really know how it's pronounced.
The story is spot on and although I have read most all that is available on our homegrown concentration camps I learned new facts. I listened to this book twice and enjoyed it as much the second time as I did the first. I highly recommend this book. it should be required reading for everyone.

Opening eyes a little more
Revisado: 05-01-17
I found out through DNA and process of elimination that my grandfather was Jewish. this piece of information sent me into immersion of the history of the time. I am not certain that this book taught me anything that I didn't already know but hearing it first person was moving and bittetsweet. The only crime a Jew ever committed was being Jewish.

Murder cases have the highest stakes and the biggest paydays, and they always mean Haller has to be at the top of his game. He soon finds out that she was back in LA and back in the life.

Great Story
Revisado: 03-22-17
I enjoyed this book as usual for Connelly books. I had to listen to the last few chapters more than once to understand all of the loose ends being tied up. This was my second read. I really did enjoy it more the second time.
This series as well as the Bosch books have the City of Los Angeles as a central character. it is my personal dream that some day the narrators will research the pronunciation of place and street names. Maybe have an Angeleno or two listen to the narration. It hurts my native born ears.
I fail to understand why Mickey is not to some degree wealthy. In one of the Bosch books Harry goes to his dad's mansion and meets him while he is lying in his expensive bed before his dad passes. Mickey was his legitimate son. Hard to believe someone else put Mickey through college and that he is perpetually broke.

Ths was a very enjoyable book to listen to except that the narrator doesn't always use local pronunciation of place names. It's my complaint about most stories set in Los Angeles. Hurts my ears.
