Historia
On a beautiful summer night in a charming English suburb, a young woman and her boyfriend disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend. One year later, a writer moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that border the same estate. Known locally as the Dark Place, the dense forest is the writer’s favorite place for long walks and it’s on one such walk that she stumbles upon a mysterious note that simply reads, “DIG HERE.”

Great story, characters, narration.
Revisado: 02-27-25
Vivid characters and intriguing story line.
Never predictable. Always keeping the plot twisting and leaves reader wanting to know what is going to happen next. Personally, I was very attached to a couple characters and felt empathy for their plight.

Historia
A child who will be named Johannes is born. An old man named Johannes dies. Between these two points, Jon Fosse gives us the details of an entire life, starkly compressed. Beginning with Johannes's father's thoughts as his wife goes into labor and ending with Johannes's own thoughts as he embarks upon a day in his life when everything is exactly the same yet totally different, Morning and Evening is a novel concerning the beautiful dream that our lives have meaning.

Different for me. Very good.
Revisado: 10-26-24
It’s a short read. But seems longer. And was just enough. It takes getting used the narrator. Who was perfect. Then you get in the cadence of the story. And once you are in, at least for me I could hear nothing else. I can’t think of the right word. It’s different. I’m always open to other peoples insights on this topic. I am not giving too must away. I’ll be thinking about this book for days to come.

I caught the attention of a monster. I didn’t ask for it. Didn’t even see it coming. But the moment I do, it’s too late. Killian Carson is a predator wrapped in sophisticated charm. He’s cold-blooded, manipulative, and savage. The worst part is that no one sees his devil side. I do. And that will cost me everything. I run, but the thing about monsters? They always chase.

From New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Freida McFadden comes the next installment of the unbelievably twisty, tension-packed and globally bestselling Housemaid series. This book can be enjoyed as a standalone listen: and once you start, it will have you up all night until the final explosive twist.

Frustrating kooky neighbors.
Revisado: 07-30-24
Too many badly behaved characters getting away with annoying behaviors. Too many good characters getting constantly thwarted by the bad ones. I kept asking myself why anyone would put up with such weird neighbors. It wasn’t believable.

Great follow up after Brooklyn.
Revisado: 05-15-24
I never read anything quite like it. I’m still thinking about it What a strange dilemma Eilis faces. I finished this book, I reread Brooklyn. I was trying to internalize the bizarre situation Eilis has deal with in the second installment. In reading other reviews, many readers felt that the ending fell flat. The ending left me wanting more. I think Eilis will surprise us in the next book. Go Eilis! It’s a great story and I’m looking forward to next sequel. And hope Jessie Buckley narrates. She’s great.

Historia
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story.

I love books that grab me from the beginning. And I always choose books after I listen to the narrator. I was hooked from beginning. The main characters were believable and not soap opera types. It’s weird but the ratball characters were really fun to dislike. And I was hoping for revenge. You’ll have to read it. entertaining story and great narrator.

Delightful Murder Mystery
Revisado: 03-13-24
Another Thursday Club book which has been a joy to read. I feel like I know these characters in real life! Like I could visit Cooper Chase retirement home and have tea and the best company!
The dialogue is so brilliant! These lovely people who have grown old, but manage to cope with aging, death and aches and pains, and loneliness with a je ne sais quoi. The clever mystery is full of enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. Oscar worthy narration by Leslie Mandeville ! My new audible favorite author. Cheers to Richard Osman! Keep them coming.

Historia
In mysterious, winding sentences gorgeously translated by Jessica Moore, De Kerangal gives us the story of two unlikely souls entwined in a quest for freedom with a striking sense of tenderness, sharply contrasting the brutality of the surrounding world. Racing toward Vladivostok, we meet the young Aliocha, packed onto a Trans-Siberian train with other Russian conscripts. Soon after boarding, he decides to desert and over a midnight smoke in a dark corridor of the train, he encounters an older French woman, Helene, for whom he feels an uncanny trust.

Revisado: 12-05-23
Reading this book was a unique experience. I read it, and then read it again. It’s not an epic tale with twists and turns that I usually read. It’s rich in language and beautiful descriptions. Surreal. The author is a master story teller. I loved how the characters connected with each other. Perfect narration. Great read!

Historia
It’s 1951 in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Blackburn Gant, his life irrevocably altered by a childhood case of polio, seems condemned to spend his life among the dead as the sole caretaker of a hilltop cemetery. It suits his withdrawn personality, and the inexplicable occurrences that happen from time to time rattle him less than interaction with the living. But when his best and only friend, the kind but impulsive Jacob Hampton, is conscripted to serve overseas, Blackburn is charged with caring for Jacob’s wife, Naomi, as well.

Historia
It's early 1938, and Maisie Dobbs is back in England. On a fine yet chilly morning, as she walks toward Fitzroy Square - a place of many memories - she is intercepted by Brian Huntley and Robert MacFarlane of the Secret Service. The German government has agreed to release a British subject from prison, but only if he is handed over to a family member. Because the man's wife is bedridden and his daughter has been killed in an accident, the Secret Service wants Maisie - who bears a striking resemblance to the daughter - to retrieve the man from Dachau....

New twist with Maisie Dobbs
Revisado: 08-31-23
Don’t want to give too much away, but this new adventure in Maisie Dobbs life is full of darker twist and turns in Munich. I have become so involved in Maisie’s life that I although I know this is a novel, I was on the edge of my seat, fearing for Maisie’s safety. The time of the Nazi’s should always instill fear in our hearts. A very excellent Maisie Dobbs novel.
