I’ve never listening to a book twice. Rarely listen if I’ve read it. I read this one twice also. Just an amazing uplifting book. Isaacson had a perfect voice. Exactly as I imagined it. Easy listen but you’ll learn so much in every chapter. Highly recommend.

This broke my heart for Robin Crawford. But he has no self pity, nor does she ask for anyone else to feel sorry for her. She was proud of the life she lived for Whitney Houston. But she did not deserve the things she experienced as Houston's friend, lover, bodyguard, assistant, company executive, roommate, stand in mother and anything else she could be for her. She lived the first half of her life at the whim of Houston who was spiraling into drug abuse and self destructive behavior. The most surprising part was that after all of that Houston kept her from being hired on with the record label later in life, when she really needed a job and to get her own life on track. Crawford is now happy with her own wife and children but she deserved better than to be second fiddle to Houston for so long.

I had a very limited idea of who I thought Cissy Houston was. I listened to Robin Crawfords book first and she politely verified how most people think of Houston's mother, calling her the 'Big Cuda' for barracuda. I even went so far as to wonder if Whitney's problems were a result of her mother. Now I know that those judgments are incorrect and inappropriate for someone who is obviously in so much pain over her daughters death.
There were several stories where my mouth dropped, Big, scary things that had not been known in the public. This is of course only Cissy's side of the story but it is one of fairly deep and painful self reflection and self blame. After reading Ms. Crawfords book and this one, I now have a better idea about what led to Houston's downfall....and it was herself. She was her own worst enemy.

This was so hilarious and full of life that I miss this whole family now. I want to go hang out with her Dad and watch how a family like hers operates. I laughed out loud in the car many times and would get home and tell my husband the shenanigans like I had hung out with her all day. She had a wonderful perspective on her crazy life, she made it through with humor and pure bravery. I am hoping to see her next book soon!

So I really do like Ellen, she is funny and happy and easy to listen to. It is not a bad book. But it should be called, "A Book About Nothing" - and not cost any money to listen to. It is more like a radio show or a pod cast, that should be free. It is a whole book about random (TOTALLY random) musings about sometimes funny stuff. At one point she tells the reader, "I am now going to make funny noises" And she starts to make random, non-nonsensical, sing songy sounds. I thought the whole time how did she think that people should be actually pay hard earned money for this....?

Jennifer Clement knows how to get you attached to a character. She includes the right combination of first person and omniscient narration, giving one the feeling of knowing someone intimately while also being in the background of their life - watching. However, the overall story line leaves the reader wanting more. Especially the ending. I had to rewind it several times to understand why it felt like it just suddenly stopped. But it's worth the listen just to come to know Pearl and her life growing up in her mothers car.

After you read this, everyday events will have you thinking twice. It might just be your deceased dad or your grandparents showing they are there. Most of us blow off these little signs or believe they are random happenstance but this book has me thinking twice about it. And what could it harm? So it make one smile and for a moment think their loved one is still with them. She also confirmed my belief that mediums have a true gift and encouraged me to see one. And lastly, she is a constant optimist which is always good for the soul.

If you could sum up I Can't Make This Up in three words, what would they be?

Hilarious, Inspiring, Self-deprecatingly funny

What did you like best about this story?

He is so self-aware, even times when you know he is embarrassed about something and doesn't really want to talk about it, he goes in head first and can make even the most cringe worthy thing funny. It makes others feel like their stuff seriously is not that bad, and if it is you can always find a way to laugh about it.

Have you listened to any of Kevin Hart’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh until I cried

What did you like best about The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck? What did you like least?

The main message: choose what you give a f**ck about. The book made me realize that I have to stress about something too much, its just what humans do. If we have nothing stressful in our lives, our brain will create something. I can choose what that is. However, that is about all I got from the book. It goes on and on about the authors life and makes a million different little sub points that wandered me into confusion.

Has The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck turned you off from other books in this genre?

No well maybe a little bit. Other books in this genre have done the same thing. This particular one did not turn me off anymore that the others like it.

What three words best describe Roger Wayne’s voice?

Non-descript, not annoying, decent

Did The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck inspire you to do anything?

The book inspired me to choose what I five a F*ck about. And know that I am always going to find something to worry about. Step back, watch it happen and know that it happens to everyone else too.

Any additional comments?

The main point got lost in the authors personal life. If readers can't relate to his life they start to check out.
