I was immersed in every moment of Rootless!
Revisado: 12-13-24
Loved the way Rootless was structured with me thinking I knew where the story was taking me. I was surprised at many plot points but the three-dimensional characters shared their souls; it was a beautiful, heart-wrenching journey. It was an international and cultural joy to dive into whenever I got a chance.
Krystle Zara Appiah is a true storyteller and now one of my favorite authors.

The story was all that
Revisado: 12-03-24
It was wonderful that the three-dimensional characters came full circle. I cringe a tad at all the expletives but the story is so well-written I manage. My responses and chuckles at the plot tell me sometimes you like something that isn't exactly the way you want it to be. Enjoy the ride!

Loved the back and forth, the emotion and agony. The pain and anguish, the joy of being in love. The magic and the forgiveness. Story well told!

Was not what I expected but great anyway!
Revisado: 10-14-23
Stacey Abrams weaved a tale that covered so much ground - addiction, character, treason, science, intrigue, politics, terrorism, family dysfunction and good old-fashioned smarts - and it worked. Great narration by Adenrele Ojo made the story even more appealing. So glad Ms. Abrams kept fighting for this story to get told.

Revisado: 02-01-22
Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone is a wonderful read. Not just for Outlander fans but anyone who loves a good story, well told.
I have read all of the Outlander books, associated novellas and short stories. The joy of reading them lies in the descriptive, passionate writing of Diana Gabaldon. The characters she has created LIVE! You cannot help but be swept up in the many tales of the many interesting characters. Although I don’t really care for period pieces, this series has been the exception.
Bees has it all - intrigue, battles, love, passion, humor…jump in and enjoy!

The layers pulled me in
Revisado: 03-11-20
I greatly enjoyed The Other Side. The story was rich, the characters were fleshed out, three-dimensional and interesting. I laughed out loud as if I was listening to cherished sisterfriends.
I wasn't sure I would get past the performance though. The narrator had great diction. However the performance was stilted but got much better as the book went on. It's always the little things that make the difference. The unnecessary spaces in the flow between great dialogue and who was speaking drove me crazy throughout. I will attribute that to bad direction of the narrator and hope she does better in the future.

Witty, fun romance with flair
Revisado: 03-08-20
I guess when I got this title I missed that it had diverse characters. These characters were so relatable especially since I grew up in Northern California. The "meet cute" set-up, the boy/girl of a certain age, their conflicts and resolutions, the royals thrown in for fun. it all worked.
The downside for me was that the narrator's British accents weren't good and distracted from the wonderful story. Getting the accents right is so integral to having the full story-telling experience especially given the story's locale. My hope is that the narrator learns how to better manage accents in her future projects.

I'm leaving you this note because I know you're very busy, and I don't want to waste the town sheriff's time. Lord knows I've already wasted enough of it. Thank you for taking me home last night and...everything else. I made you a basket of wild blueberry muffins for your trouble. That seemed like the appropriate baked good for getting naked in your living room. I wasn't myself last night. I didn't mean to kiss you or fondle your backside or ask all those intimate questions. Thank you for pretending to enjoy it.

Revisado: 02-04-20
The story had me laughing, giggling and chuckling out loud. The guy narrator was great; the female narrator’s voice grated on my nerves. The story kept me listening.
Best supporting character was Brooke - she was a hoot!

Historia
It is 1872, and a series of gruesome murders is the talk of London. Mycroft Holmes - now 26 and a force to be reckoned with at the War Office - has no interest in the killings; however his brother Sherlock has developed a distasteful fascination for the macabre to the detriment of his studies, much to Mycroft's frustration. When a ship carrying cargo belonging to Mycroft's best friend Cyrus Douglas runs aground, Mycroft persuades Sherlock to serve as a tutor at the orphanage that Douglas runs as a charity, so that Douglas might travel to see what can be salvaged.
