If you’re looking for a modernized follow-up book to One Up on Wall Street, by Peter Lynch, then this is it! Nothing But Net discusses in rare (and entertaining) detail Mark Mahaney’s expansive career covering technology and internet public companies since the 1990s. Mark is clearly one of the best analysts of our time who also happens to have dedicated his career to studying one of the best sectors of our time, perhaps all-time. Importantly he covers personal key lessons learned on what made amazing companies continue to grow in success and market cap for years and in some cases decades. Mark has covered some of the most defining companies of our time and tells it all, providing sharp detail why so many of his calls succeeded over time, and importantly why some didn’t. As Mark describes success and in some cases enormous success is comprised of many things from leadership, vision, innovation, customer focus and just plain luck. Mark discusses these lessons and then relates these qualities to direct impacts on company financials and long-term trajectories. His career is filled with so many interesting lessons that he’s learned through opportunities to speak with the best leadership teams in business (think Bezos to Hastings) and personally witnessing these companies grow or fumble during his meticulous coverage of the companies. Nothing was or is a straight line, so Mark’s interpretation of what was “really” happening is enormously helpful in providing a compass for possible future outcomes. I wasn’t expecting Mark to take the time to write this book with so much insight and feel grateful for the opportunity to read it – without a doubt I’m mentally richer, as will anyone be that wishes to find and invest in the best companies over the long-term. I think everyone aspiring to invest and learn from the financial Greats should have a copy of One Up on Wall Street and then put this book right next to it, a gem!
