Historia
The American story is a story of progress. We’re taught that as time moves forward–and movements for civil rights come and go–America gets better, and better, and better. But the story isn’t that straightforward. Because often, on the heels of what looks like progress, comes backlash. People in power find ways to return things to the way they were before. These moments prove that progress isn’t linear or inevitable. Our standard narratives about American progress aren’t quite true. Backlash offers a new narrative.

The only thing I dislike is the fact that her podcast made me once again realize that the education I received in the US is whitewashed. Women my age and younger may not have known exactly why bodily autonomy is so important. The world needs to understand why The Black Panthers were so important. and shame on you Hollywood for constantly making them out to be dangerous thugs. I wish I could post this on tiktok so more people could have a listen.

if you like the old lifetime movies before the husbands start disappearing, these last few books are for you. sappy, unbelievable,"does this author know that 30 year olds aren't 10" kind of books are what have been made for us these last few years. Ive bought them because, you just can't end a series, but I really should just give up.i think there's less dramatizations in a Telanovela. ugh.

Listen to your children!!
Revisado: 05-10-21
..First, the narration seems a bit stilted. Why? The author is the narrator of her own tragic story. It is impossible to read your own story through your own words without every emotion going through you, so it has to be safer for your mentality to read your story nearly monotone. I do NOT fault her for that.
..Second, I do not nor do I want to have children and her story is one of the many, many reasons I am so thankful for my decision not to have had children. No, her story is not my story, nor is it of any of my younger sisters, but as a teenager, I heard things from friends of friends. As I grew into adulthood, I heard more and more and read about it more and more where child abuse was fiction, but seeing it on TV???? Why would I want to bring a child into this world where they aren't safe from those that are supposed to love them most? Not saying that it's not in my surrounding family, but it could be in the family I bring into my life.
..Third, one review I read was upset that the story jumped forward so quickly that they weren't able to keep up. When was the last time any one was able to recollect their childhood month-to-month from the age of 5 until the age of 18 without missing a beat??
..Fourth, the justice system makes no sense. Marijuana charges can get peaceful people killed in prison, and child rapists get out in time to still make new victims biologically.
..Fifth, thank you for sharing your story. Reader beware as there are triggers in this novel. Thank you, and please be kind out there. You never know who needs it.

When Felix lets himself into Number 3 Black Lane, he’s there to keep a dying man company as he takes his final breath. But just 15 minutes later, Felix is on the run from the police. Now he must discover whether what went wrong was a simple mistake - or deliberate, a murder.

Revisado: 03-19-21
i didnt remember pre-ordering this book so surprise to me when i saw it in my library. kinda wishing i didnt spend a credit on this. the narrator does different voices very well. i just couldnt follow at times to what he was talking about. the first female in the story i hated. her personality clashes with her career choice. but only good thing, the killer, you never saw that coming.

Beautifully written!!
Revisado: 06-13-20
The narration threw me off when he spoke in an Irish accent, but made sense on the protagonist's upbringing. Then it changed as he morphed (i guess you can say) into a super soldier (think Captain America).
What he went through, his rage to keep him going, his ability to keep who and what he used to be part of his new self and yet, a thing respected by others, kept me hooked. What he went through, who he lost, who he befriended through war, the situations many of us wouldn't be able to go through, all that kept me going and went through again after the story was over. We've all read variations of this storyline, but NONE are this well told. I don't think I've ever heard of this book before, but I'm so glad I bought this. Can not wait to hear the next in this series!

Imagine living with a fear so visceral each day that simply walking down the street draws terror to one’s core. That’s the best case scenario for a woman on the streets of Juárez, Mexico. Kate del Castillo (La Reina del Sur) delivers a stunning one-woman performance that transports listeners from a New York stage to the treacherous streets of Juárez, Mexico, where thousands of women have been murdered in an ongoing epidemic of violence.

Women matter
Revisado: 11-05-19
Since i don't speak Spanish, some of the dialogue went right over my head but to hear this story start light and finish very dark got me. You forget the troubles in other countries where women are about as useable as facial tissue. The United States is a joke now, but we women have it much better up here than millions of women in other countries. I'm not saying our lives are our own, but the majority of us matter. We all matter. i hear your stories.

Of all the Original stories I've listened to, this one is, by far, the best. The writing, the performance ... You'll laugh, you might shed a tear or two, it even has that suspense many of us love. There's a reason why casting grabbed these actors. They are the best!

Waste of time
Revisado: 03-08-19
I thought that getting this book was so cool because of Diane Lane. Until about 5 minutes in. Professional high powered woman tries to talk an author into changing one of the couples in his book to same sex for a movie. Okay, interesting. Kinda pushy though. Then she meets him and half falls in love. Ugh, really? Now the book is about a desperately thirsty woman wanting to cheat on her husband with anyone. Hes just a southern gentleman being a gracious host to a middle aged woman in heat. They touch and go on the book\movie, but hes not changing. At this point, i shouldve just stopped listening. The story ends with you feeling quite disappointed in yourself in getting suckered into downloading this waste of time.
