This story inspires me to continue the work I do and acknowledge how far I’ve come in this journey to come home. Mr. Rodriguez show us how community is an integral part of recovery, healing and finding ourselves. I enjoyed learning about the historical and political phases that he witnessed as mass incarceration continues to grow. I appreciated the many forms of truth telling about his life. May him and his family be blessed always. I read always running while in juvenile hall in California and it was the first book I had ever read. I felt seen and heard in that story. Thank you for your contribution to making us feel seen and heard.

As a woman of color, I truly connected with the stories and reflections. The storytelling was rhythmic. It made me fall in love with the dance and song shared. I laughed, cried and connected to the writer. I will be mourning the end of the story! Quiara is an absolute wordsmith con un poder especial para componer palabras! Totally recommend!

I couldn’t put this book down. The stories are rooted in values and events that are close to my own. This book explores the effects of war, survival, family and the Mexican-American experience. Loved it!!

This was a great book. I loves the authors examples of those who have faced adversity in life and weaves through biblical verses that help you comprehend the greatness of God.
The author provides biblical evidence that although God doesn’t make sense faith and prayer is above all the most important things to do when seeking God and his love.
This book has really helped me feel closer to God after surviving an difficult life. I’m learning to forgive and make amends with my creator. My faith in God should be greater than any loss, struggle or pain I have endured.
Although some of the beliefs of the author about these new times are not aligned with what I believe I respect his view of the world and was still able to received the beautiful messages.
