Historia
The Nineteenth Amendment was an incomplete victory. Black and white women fought for voting rights and doubled the number of eligible voters, but the amendment did not enfranchise all women or even protect the rights of those women who could vote. A century later, women are still grappling with how to use the vote and their political power to expand civil rights, confront racial violence, improve maternal health, advance educational and employment opportunities, and secure reproductive rights. Formidable chronicles the efforts of white and Black women to advance sometimes competing causes.

Must read in today's political climate
Revisado: 09-01-23
This book covers the many facets of being a woman and has motivated me to become more engaged in politics. Griffith is careful to cover the variety of experiences that bring us to today's freedoms (and lack of). I loved when she highlighted the first-time government advances and women in office while still honoring those that pushed to get us there. She is not shy to show the horrible past our country has but she also celebrates the wins and speaks to progress. Many of the issues covered in this book are still relevant today. After reading, I feel more educated about the work that has gone into my experience as a woman today.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Fantastic read - highly recommend it!
Revisado: 07-13-17
I really enjoyed this book. Sheryl did a great job providing real life scenarios to explain her points. Even though everyone comes from different walks of life and is on different career paths, I felt her points were completely relatable. I recommend it to anyone interested in more gender equality and anyone who needs a little reminder to go after what they want in life. Don't be afraid to speak up!
