Historia
What is anger? Who is allowed to be angry? How can we manage our anger? How can we use it? It might seem like a day doesn’t go by without some troubling explosion of anger, whether we’re shouting at the kids, or the TV, or the driver ahead who’s slowing us down. In this audiobook, the first of its kind, Dr. Ryan Martin draws on 20 years plus of research, as well as his own childhood experience of an angry parent, to take an all-round view on this often-challenging emotion.

Is there a book on emotions without judgement?
Revisado: 05-20-23
I will pay full price for a book without judgement, without Americentrism and without "morality."
Mildly annoyed about not being able to return this one for either full or partial refund.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

Americentric
Revisado: 05-31-20
The pamphlet is americentric to the point of parody. To the point of nationalistic bigotry.

Historia
From the capture of Sidney Reilly, the "Ace of Spies", by Lenin's Bolsheviks in 1925, to the deportation from the USA of Anna Chapman, the "Redhead under the Bed", in 2010, Kremlin and Western spymasters have battled for supremacy for nearly a century. In Deception Edward Lucas uncovers the real story of Chapman and her colleagues in Britain and America, unveiling their clandestine missions and the spy-hunt that led to their downfall. It reveals unknown triumphs and disasters of Western intelligence in the Cold War,

Revisado: 03-10-20
Boring, preachy, dated, and hypocritical. What is the point of all the pearl clutchng if the author is on air defending Western apologists for the USSR and for Putin?

Historia
Sarah Vowell's special brand of armchair history makes the bizarre and esoteric fascinatingly relevant and fun. She takes us from the modern-day reenactment of an Indian massacre to the Mohegan Sun casino, from old-timey Puritan poetry, where "righteousness" is rhymed with "wilderness," to a Mayflower-themed waterslide. Throughout, The Wordy Shipmates is rich in historical fact, humorous insight, and social commentary by one of America's most celebrated voices.

There must be a prize for the worst narration.
Revisado: 11-13-15
The worst narrator I've ever encountered.
The book should be in kids or young adult category. There is nothing you haven't heard if you graduated from a high school.

Historia
In the late nineteenth century a mysterious group of English martial arts aficionados provided Sir Richard F. Burton, well-known expert on exotic languages and historical swordsmanship, a collection of long-lost manuscripts to translate. Burton’s work was subsequently misplaced, only to be discovered by a team of amateur archaeologists in the ruins of a mansion in Treiste. From Burton's translations and the original source material, the epic tale of The Mongoliad was recreated.

This is not literature, this is a supplemental reading to a computer game. On a brighter side, there are 'binders' and they are 'full of women.'

Forgettable
Revisado: 08-09-12
It's a descent hard-working horse of a science fiction book. I've read and heard far worse. It doesn't feel like Pratchett. It has no humor, no story, and it's annoyingly preachy. Good for a 6 hours drive - it will keep your awake but you will never get too excited or too carried away.

Historia
In the summer of 2011, Meghan McCain and Michael Ian Black embarked on a balls-out, cross-country tour. Along the way, they spoke to politicians, gun lovers, abortion-rights advocates and opponents, gay parents, flag burners, Muslims, poker players, Tea Partiers, Minutemen, veterans, teen moms, bikers, fast-food workers, and a hooker or two. They toured the White House. They fired semiautomatic weapons. They stopped and ate at every Olive Garden along the way. But mostly they talked to each other.

Hit fast forward
Revisado: 08-09-12
Be prepared to what an earlier reviewer warned you about - it is painfully cringingly uneven. Do not listen to it when you drive or in any other situation when you can't easily reach your fast forward/ next section button. Every segment is like a small story in its own right, so if you are getting annoyed by one author, skip to the next segment. Unlike that earlier reviewer, I listened to the end and I can tell you that the weaker one is not getting better. Approach it as a real life situation. Not all people are mature, or self-aware, or have writing skills, or melodious voices, but they are not going anywhere and it's up to you to decide if you want to listen, or switch off, or ignore. That much for 'America" and 'Freedom'. There is absolutely nothing about 'sexy', 'bitches', 'love', or 'letters.'

Historia
Frederick Forsyth's spellbinding novels are the natural outgrowth of an adventuresome career in international investigative journalism. Written in Austria and Germany during the fall of 1971, The Odessa File is based on its author's life experiences as a Reuters man reporting from London, Paris, and East Berlin in the early 1960s.

The world is flat. Very flat.
Revisado: 10-02-11
One-dimensional story with cartoonish characters loosely based on real events and real characters. I generally love Frederick Davidson when he is narrating comedy. One of the reasons may be that any non-English-speaking character sounds, sooner or later, like Pepe Le Pew. But this book is not supposed to be a comedy, right? Unless it is a tongue-in-cheek commentary on British xenophobia: Germans, being Western European and Germanic people, are, generally speaking, good guys with few bad apples giving them bad reputation, Jews are single minded sufferers-revenge-seekers, everybody outside Western Europe are evil brutes just because. I laughed out aloud several times, but, in the end, did the author really had to drag the real tragedy of Holocaust into this travesty?
