Hate hate the music
Revisado: 02-22-22
I loved reading this whole series and am now listening to it. I was able to adjust to a new narrator but the music almost ruined my experience.

Narrator distracts
Revisado: 06-02-18
The woman narrator was excellent but the man’s narration style was very distracting to me. I almost had to stop listening even though I was caught up in the story.

Historia
Was it suicide… or murder? When teenager Nick Buckingham tumbles from the fifth floor of an apartment block, Detective Sergeant Solomon Gray answers the call with a sick feeling in his stomach. The victim was just a kid, sixteen years old. And the exact age the detective's son, Tom, would've been, had he not gone missing at a funfair ten years ago. Each case involving children haunts Gray with the reminder that his son may still be out there - or worse, dead.

Promising but not delivered yet
Revisado: 05-02-18
This good writer gets better I hear as this series develops. I think the narration style made the story and writing seem weaker than they would be if I read the book instead.
I noticed that there are no audiobooks so I have to read the next ones. I will for curiosity at least.

Historia
Writing in the tradition of Dennis Lehane and Greg Iles, Attica Locke, a powerful new voice in American fiction, delivers a brilliant debut thriller that readers will not soon forget. Jay Porter is hardly the lawyer he set out to be. His most promising client is a low-rent call girl and he runs his fledgling law practice out of a dingy strip mall. But he's long since made peace with not living the American Dream and carefully tucked away his darkest sins: the guns, the FBI file, the trial that nearly destroyed him.

Hated the melodramatic music
Revisado: 10-22-17
Great writer and drama enough in a well told story. The music between chapters distracted from experience for me.

Historia
Two brown girls dream of being dancers - but only one, Tracey, has talent. The other has ideas: About rhythm and time, about Black bodies and Black music, what constitutes a tribe, or makes a person truly free. It's a close but complicated childhood friendship that ends abruptly in their early 20s, never to be revisited, but never quite forgotten, either. Tracey makes it to the chorus line but struggles with adult life, while her friend leaves the old neighborhood behind, traveling the world as an assistant to a famous singer, Aimee, observing close up how the one percent live.

I recommend this book strongly for its insights and language. I was deeply moved by the story and cannot imagine a different way of telling it. Zadie Smith is a wonderful writer.
