From the Booker Prize-winning author of The Remains of the Day and When We Were Orphans comes an unforgettable edge-of-your-seat mystery that is at once heartbreakingly tender and morally courageous about what it means to be human.

Narrator makes this great
Revisado: 04-08-25
I was entertained from the first sentence
some things were drawn out and overly cheesy but the basic story was a fun fantasy and ultimately the ending not predictable
Jack and his gang were likable.
Jack is an anti-hero who is frustrating and cowardly for the first half of the book and slowly gains maturity.

Historia
When Christina Crawford’s harrowing chronicle of child abuse was first published in 1978, it brought global attention to the previously closeted subject. It also shed light on the guarded world of Hollywood and stripped away the façade of Christina’s relentless, alcoholic abuser: her adoptive mother, movie star Joan Crawford.

fascinating memoir
Revisado: 04-02-25
narrator awful choice and a shame
definitely book should be read not heard
Christina is an interesting person, with her own issues. She and her Narcissistic damaged and abusive mother had an enmeshed relationship that is as painful to experience as it is intense.
I believe Christina told the truth as she knew it.
If she made this up, she would have had to be a genius.
Christina does come across as whiny, bitter, and entitled at times.
I did not blame her but sped up the recording during the strident angry rants of either of the two main characters.
Her story of becoming independent eventually while still maintaining polite contact with her mother is remarkable.
She was sassy and tough and paid the price of abandonment and loneliness.
This is a book I am relieved to be finished with, yet as a survivor of narcissistic parents myself, I am personally grateful Tina told her story.

Love this guy
Revisado: 01-17-25
Voice is painful to listen to but once he said that he had had throat cancer I gave him a pass. Despite the terrible voice he reads his story with great feeling. I believed every word
I am not a big fan of weight loss for the sake of Good looks and vanity but Tommy makes it clear that it is all about being healthy and navigating the world in an easier way.
I hope he was able to keep the weight off and if I could tell him anything I would say that his ideal weight is probably 275 to 290 pounds and 230 would be too low.
I also hate weight loss memoirs that imply that anyone can lose weight if they put their mind to it and that fat people should lose weight. I loved that Tommy emphasized just how hard it was to make even any slow progress and that he never once implied that other fat people should lose weight.
As a medical doctor who believes in health at every size HAES and who hates weight loss Surgery, this book has my approval.
I am straight sized myself for multiple reasons that have nothing to do with any great achievement on my part. I think the way fat people are treated is dreadful and needs to be changed.
I also liked that Tommy never claimed that discrimination made him unhappy but rather he felt unhappy about his weight for personal internal reasons.

Historia
Medicine has become inhuman, to disastrous effect. The doctor-patient relationship - the heart of medicine - is broken: doctors are too distracted and overwhelmed to truly connect with their patients, and medical errors and misdiagnoses abound. In Deep Medicine, leading physician Eric Topol reveals how artificial intelligence can help. AI has the potential to transform everything doctors do, from notetaking and medical scans to diagnosis and treatment, greatly cutting down the cost of medicine and reducing human mortality.

Super Interesting and Optimistic
Revisado: 01-12-25
Narrator was fine did not detract.
I did need to speed this up to 1.15 as this book was more educational than it was fun.
The author has a high opinion of himself but thankfully other than some eye-roking inducing passages mainly sticks to an excellent history of artificial intelligence as it applies to the field of medicine in past present, and future.
Excellent for physicians not really a Layman's book unless you are the kind of person who loves to read Scientific American. I'm not that kind of person but I am a doctor so this was great for me.
I do recommend this for docs and other healthcare field workers who are intrigued rather thanhorrified by AI
I loved the author's positive spin on the topic and paranoid-quelling attitude.
I intend to buy the paper version just to be able to review some of the apps he extolls.
But this was a good audiobook especially as it was free.

Historia
It is autumn 1981 when inconceivable horror comes to Blackeberg, a suburb in Sweden. The body of a teenager is found, emptied of blood, the murder rumored to be part of a ritual killing. Twelve-year-old Oskar is personally hoping that revenge has come at long last—revenge for the bullying he endures at school, day after day. But the murder is not the most important thing on his mind. A new girl has moved in next door—a girl who has never seen a Rubik’s Cube before, but who can solve it at once. There is something wrong with her, though, something odd.

This was free and worth every penny. narrator was excellent. Writing was very good.
Story was awful pointless violent
Unending misery, one unpleasant episode after another.
But the worst thing was that there was not one character I liked or identified with or rooted for, other than the captain of the ship, who seemed like a good man, although gullible.
I cannot in good conscious continue with the dreadful dour story. I am bailing halfway through. I am on chapter 22.
I kept thinking it had to get better
