Historia
Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were a Sixties supercharged couple in an era of supercharged couples. As a pairing they were fantasy figures, impossibly desirable. Liz supple and soft, in perfumes and furs - yet with something demonic and lethal about her. Dick, in turn, with his ravaged, handsome face, looked as though lit by silver moonlight - poised to turn into a wolf. Roger Lewis uses this glamorous and damaged pair as the starting point to tell the story of an age of excess.

Irreverent and entertaining.
Revisado: 08-30-24
A fascinating reflection on an era when stars were larger than life. Full of golden nuggets written and read with a Burtonian wry dry wit. I grew up in the 60s and 70s and remember the media following their affairs and movements, and my parents anecdotal interest and sympathies. Times have changed and the freedoms we have since lost to our perhaps more evolved, puritanical and judgmental society make the revelations more scandalous and juicy.

Historia
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Twaddle about interesting subject.
Revisado: 04-12-21
Disappointing. All over the place following a path to nowhere. Some interesting parts based on what might be legitimate research (of others) with equal parts detailing with misrepresentation of events and omissions of relevant fact where the author tries to lead to a weak conclusion. More than any book from audible I wanted to just stop listening and move on to the next book. Poorly edited recording. Author should go back to the drawing board with this one and avoid the temptation of bias confirmation. It seems the author has failed by his own conclusion.

Historia
Few novels have had as profound an impact on American culture as On the Road. Pulsating with the rhythms of 1950s underground America, jazz, sex, illicit drugs, and the mystery and promise of the open road, Kerouac’s classic novel of freedom and longing defined what it meant to be “beat” and has inspired generations of writers, musicians, artists, poets, and seekers who cite their discovery of the book as the event that “set them free”.

Different, adsorbing, very good
Revisado: 03-29-21
The best narration takes this crazy classic to a high level. I would not have been able to read this but to hear W. Patton bring it to life significantly enhanced the experience. Sad it ended.
