Stellar Narration and an Entertaining Read
Revisado: 03-18-25
Im not generally a spy thriller girl, but narrator Eduardo Ballerini is a favorite, so I gave it a go. Maybe not a completely original storyline (Is that you Jason Bourne?), but it was original enough to keep my attention and Im kind of a judgey reader . The action scenes were dedcriptive, yet not overly wordy they way I often find then to be. There were enough unanswered questions (as there should be in installment works) to leave me wanting more, but not frustrated by the fact. Ive already purchased the next Agent Zero book.

Historia
Like any other teenager, Jess Flynn is just trying to get through her junior year without drama...but drama seems to keep finding her. Between a new crush on her childhood best friend, overprotective parents cramping her social life, and her younger sister’s worsening health, the only constant is change - and her hometown of Swickley, which feels smaller by the day. Swickley is getting weirder by the day, too. Half the population has been struck down by a mysterious flu. Conversations end awkwardly when Jess enters the room.

That ending...oy vey!
Revisado: 04-04-22
I actually enjoyed the vast majority of the book, but the ending was just unfortunate. It was rushed, left so many open plot lines and unanswered questions. Maybe its intended to be a series? If so, I'll definitely buy subsequent books, but Im left a bit disappointed, for now.

Not Bad, At All
Revisado: 01-24-22
A great story, somewhat blandly narrated. It wasn't a blockbuster that kept me coming back for more, but it was enjoyable enough that I never considered DNF-ing it. If the narration had been a bit more lively, I probably would have given it 5s across the board. As is, Id still chose to listen to both the book and the narrator, again.

Every modern city has one week’s worth of food to feed itself. Then it will collapse. Cut off the resources to New York, Sydney, or even a mid-size metropolis, and millions will soon starve. In Zero Day Code we see those immense and open, hyper-complex, networked supercities of the new millennium die. And in the last moments we see their vengeance take form as all the best and worst traits of humanity bubble to the surface.

Post Apocalypse, Sans Zombies
Revisado: 03-04-21
Fantastic story telling of the end of the world as we know it, with nary a zombie in sight. No, friends, this a realistic, completely plausible, could actually happen story. The way he weaves the twists and turns of a storyline is second to none. And don't even get me started on the narration! Seriously, Rupert Degas is stellar. This is one you'll listen to more than once.

Historia
The secrets of Queen Victoria's sixth child, Princess Louise, may be destined to remain hidden forever. What was so dangerous about this artistic, tempestuous royal that her life has been documented more by rumor and gossip than hard facts? When Lucinda Hawksley started to investigate, often thwarted by inexplicable secrecy, she discovered a fascinating woman, modern before her time, whose story has been shielded for years from public view.

Incredibly Frustrating
Revisado: 01-16-20
This is one of the most frustrating, disappointing books I've ever purchased. It read like a gossip column, often repeating rumor and ineundo, incessantly. Over and over we're told Princess Louise didnt love her husband, didnt spend time with him, he was gay, and she had lots of lovers. Over and over. At the same time, just once, there was mention of her instense worry for niece Czarina Alexandra...and then nothing else. All this worrying and no mention of her beloved niece, and her family, following the events of 1918. These are just a few of the far too many examples to mention. There was no follow through; no back up.
Disjointed, repetitive, and frankly, it often felt like a dirty tabloid. What's worst of all, is that I learned nothing new about the Princess. The narrator was the lone bright spot.
This is a disappointing no, from me.

Historia
Lost in time, the town of Black Creek, Kentucky becomes home to temporal layers of people, creatures, and monsters from disparate eras. Journey beyond the time of humanity and witness the rewriting of mankind’s genesis. For Owen McCoy, a typical day on the job as head of security for Synergy, a research company conducting mysterious experiments, is boring at best. And that’s the way he likes it. Patrolling the Appalachian mountainside, where his now deceased father taught him how to hunt, is relaxing and connects him to the past.

Potential foiled by the narration

The narrator's one note delivery made this a difficult listen, that I was unable to finish. I think I'll wait a few months and try to read the hard copy, as the story is quite intriguing..

From Martin Clark - praised by Entertainment Weekly as "our best legal-thriller writer" - comes a wickedly clever, tenderhearted, and intricately plotted novel about a hard-luck lawyer's refusal to concede defeat, even as fate, the court system, and a gang of untouchable con artists conspire against him.

So Frustrating
Revisado: 07-02-19
I finally gave up. Most books require a certain amount of suspension of belief, but this one is asks too much of the reader/listener. The characters just aren't very likeable and, frankly, not believable. I don't think it would be possible to write a more shrill, annoying female character, than Erica. I'm so frustrated I can't organize my thoughts. It was a good idea, and could have been a great book, but it turned out to be a mess.
