Historia
A best-selling author of books for adults and children, Mark Childress pens his most outrageous work yet with Georgia Bottoms. The titular heroine is the epitome of the church-going Southern belle, except for one teeny-tiny aspect of her life. Georgia’s family inheritance has long since evaporated, and to maintain her genteel lifestyle, Miss Bottoms has taken six affluent lovers—the fly in the ointment being that one is a married preacher who’s about to reveal their infidelity to the whole congregation.

Historia
Nonny Frett understands the meanings of "rock" and "hard place" better than any woman ever born. She's got two mothers, "one deaf-blind and the other four baby steps from flat crazy". She's got two men: her husband, who's easing out the back door; and her best friend, who's laying siege to her heart in her front yard. She has a job that holds her in the city, and she's addicted to a little girl who's stuck deep in the country.

A cast of quirky and strong southern women
Revisado: 06-15-12
Would you listen to Between, Georgia again? Why?
Life isn't always easy and it isn't always sweet, but it can be highly entertaining just the same. What a wonderful cast of women - each and every one as true to themselves as they could possibly be.
What other book might you compare Between, Georgia to and why?
A few hints of "Steele Magnolias" and "Crazy In Alabama".
Any additional comments?
Laughter and tears are always the best combination!

Historia
The only novel written by Emily Bronte, Wuthering Heights was originally published under the pseudonym Ellis Bell, and at first was thought to be the work of Emily's sister, Charlotte, the author of the classic, Jane Eyre. Wuthering Heights tells the tale of Heathcliff, a young orphaned gypsy boy, who is brought to the windswept moors of Yorkshire by Mr. Earnshaw, the master of Wuthering Heights.

Not worth a second try
Revisado: 07-17-10
I had not read this since high school (a long time ago). I did not particularily like it in HS, but thought that it deserved a second try since we tend to enjoy things more when we are not being forced to do them. And it was mentioned in a recent romantic comedy as being the book that the heroine read every year at Christmas. I was sure that it was better than I remember and I too would becme a devoted fan, if not an "annual" one. I was wrong. In fact, I think that it was worse the second time around. Not one single character in there worth any empathy at all - with the possible exception of the ever present and snarling dogs. When people are that awful, it is truly hard to care about them!

A jewel
Revisado: 07-17-10
I have a long commute, so I listen to MANY books. I often just glance through the descriptions and pick at random based on some little thing that caught my eye. This one was a jewel! I do not know how I discovered it, and can't remember why I picked it - but I am certainly glad that I did. It gives a new perspective on consequences of choices that we make in life - even the seemingly small and casual ones. The story of interwoven lives that unravel.....so much is sad but such a good listen.

Better than fiction
Revisado: 07-17-10
Because I just picked this title out of the blue, I did not know that it was a true story. That info is in the description, I just didn't read it! Oh, if we could all be so lucky as to have a George Corrigan in our lives! This one is filled with some tough emotions, but it is served up with a huge helping of hope and love. Anyone that has cared for a parent and their own children at the same time can relate on a lot of levels.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Revisado: 07-17-10
This is one of those emotional and personal journeys that should not be missed. It is a great perspective from both sides of the coin. For those of us that lived through the 60's, it is riveting. For those that didn't, it will be eye opening.

A thought provoking listen that covers joy, sorrow, laughter, heartbreak - a full range of emotions. You can't help but fall in love with Homer and all of his short comings. If you have seen the movie, you need to experience the book. Hope you enjoy both as much as I did!

Historia
Pat Conroy is without doubt America's favorite storyteller, a writer who portrays the anguished truth of the human heart and the painful secrets of families in richly lyrical prose and unforgettable narratives. Now, in Beach Music, he tells of the dark memories that haunt generations, in a story that spans South Carolina and Rome and reaches back into the unutterable terrors of the Holocaust.

Beach Music
Revisado: 12-27-09
Pat Conroy has an almost lyrical way of expressing himself and that is all the more evident in the audio production of this book. The beauty of his words holds true even when the event is painful or horrific. It is a captivating tale filled with sarcasitc wit, family secrets, and tragedy on an epic scale. The South is always a character in itself in his novels and this one is no exception. This is one of my favorite Conroy novels, and I frequently give it as a gift to friends unfamiliar with his work. Take a trip to Pat Conroy's South and you will never quite look at it the same again - but it will seduce you just the same.
