Bad American Accent
Revisado: 11-24-24
I love the Outlander series and have enjoyed the narrator very much throughout the series. However, she cannot do an American accent to save her life. It is like nails on a chalkboard every time I hear Brianna because it's the worst American accent I've ever heard. Davina Porter is an excellent narrator on everything else. Her accents are wonderful for all except the American. So, sit back and enjoy this book but suspend your disbelief every time Brianna talks.

Historia
Jane Grey was queen of England for nine days. Her father and his allies crowned her instead of the dead king's half sister, Mary Tudor, who quickly mustered an army, claimed her throne, and locked Jane in the Tower of London. When Jane refused to betray her Protestant faith, Mary sent her to the executioner's block, where Jane transformed her father's greedy power grab into tragic martyrdom.

Three books in one about three sisters
Revisado: 07-13-21
I must admit I did not much enjoy the first book, which was about Jane Grey, the nine days queen. But it is an important story if you are interested in learning about history in an entertaining way. I would not have liked Jane Grey, I think.
The second book was about her sister Catherine Grey and the third book about her sister Mary Gray. I enjoyed these books and I'm sure I would have liked both Mary and Catherine.
I do enjoy Philippa Gregory's books that weave so much of History with her imagination to bring history to life in an entertaining way.

Tudor Times from a Different Pont of View
Revisado: 05-26-21
I enjoyed this book that follows the life of Hannah Verde (Greene) from the fiery execution of her mother in Spain to the life of a merchant's daughter in London. Outside her father's book shop, she is discovered by Robert Dudley and brought to the royal palaces as a royal fool kept on for her rare gift of sight. Her father arranges a marriage for her with a young would-be doctor, but will she be happy in a marriage with this young man? She flees England to Calais to avoid her own fiery execution. She is in Calais when it falls to the French and escapes with Robert Dudley back to England. What happens next? You will have to buy the book for yourself to find out.

I love the way this book was written
Revisado: 12-20-20
This is the story of three women who lived under the tyranny of Henry the wife murderer and scourge of England. It is written in the first-person, but since it's three different women, it gives you a good view of what was happening from three different points of view. I always say this, it is a great way to learn about history. And I love that it is about the women that so little is known about instead of specifically about Henry. Now it's time for me to pick up the next novel in the series. I can't wait!

Loved this book
Revisado: 10-04-20
It was so nice to discover that Mary Boleyn was actually a good person who was also a Boleyn pawn. This book reminds me of just why I say that the Tudors and Ann Boleyn were a blight on England. It turns out that the Boelyn parents and uncle were also heavily responsible for the tragedy that was England in their time. But this book isn't just about Mary Boleyn. It also gives you a lot of insight into Anne Boleyn and their brother George Boleyn. I highly recommend this book if you want to know about English Royal history, but learn about it in an entertaining way.

Like all her books, this one does not disappoint
Revisado: 08-26-20
In spite of the title, this is really the story of Margaret, the English princess and Scottish Queen. Catherine of Aragon, and Margaret's sister Mary are merely incidental characters.
I believe this book will give you great insight into what life was like in their day, and what it was like to be a queen in a man's world. Alhough I probably would not have liked Margaret, I can't help but admire her for her strength and convictions.
One of the funniest things about this book is that she kept calling Catherine of Aragon "Catherine of arrogance". And I felt that none were more arrogant than Margaret!
I highly recommend this book. I think you will enjoy it.

An interesting and enjoyable read
Revisado: 07-21-20
Although this was a good book, I can't help comparing the writing to Philippa Gregory's writing. This book seems a little less historical and a little more fun novel. I'm sure there is a great deal that was accurate regarding the times, but perhaps there were a lot of assumptions about the people. But I enjoyed it, and I do feel that I learned quite a bit about the players. I recommend this book and I am just about to purchase the next two books in the series.

When they meet and are married, the match becomes as passionate as it is politically expedient. The young lovers revel in each other’s company and plan the England they will make together. But tragically, aged only 15, Arthur falls ill and extracts from his 16-year-old bride a deathbed promise to marry his brother, Henry; become queen; and fulfill their dreams and her destiny.

Fascinating history and story
Revisado: 07-09-20
I love this book. I loved learning about Catherine of Aragon, Spain, the Moors, the Crusades, and the Spanish inquisitions. Though the last four were not in depth, it was good to get a general understanding of what was happening at the time.
A great woman of impressive courage and strength, Catherine of Aragon was good for England! She was possibly one of the best Queens in England's history!

Revisado: 07-09-20
Don't start this book if you are already depressed!
I already knew quite a bit about Henry the 8th before I read this book. But what an eye-opener! I knew he was bad, but I had no idea he was this bad!
I think Catherine of Aragon must have been a saint. And Anne Boleyn a murderous monster. As far as I'm concerned, Anne Boleyn was never married to Henry the 8th even though he said she was (they actually had two ceremonies, but he was already married to a Catherine of Aragon at the time!)
I love the books in this series. I learn so much from reading them, in the most enjoyable way. I love learning about the amazingly strong women throughout time. Philippa Gregory's Plantagenet / Tudor books are well-researched. the Tudors and all of their cronies were a blight on England, and this book demonstrates that very well. Such a sad time in England's history. So many innocent lives destroyed.
As I said, it's a very good book! Just don't start it if you're already depressed, because there is a lot of darkness here.
