Historia
Kacy Tellessen is a grunt. After completing high school in rural Washington, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and began the hero's journey he imagined might parallel those epic tales he'd consumed throughout adolescence. But what Tellessen lived through—from boot camp to the battlefield and home again—had little in common with Homer's tales or Hollywood's depictions. In his memoir, Tellessen offers a truer account of life as an infantryman: the complicated, conflicting, adrenaline-pumping, and traumatic experience of war.

An irreverent and real look at life in a combat unit
Revisado: 04-29-22
This book captures the fighting spirit of boys who voluntarily force themselves into manhood. It’s an egotistical memoir (not in a bad way) that is honest about how young men think before, during, and after wartime.

Historia
Joining the Marines in 2002, David Rose signed up to go fight...and to go die. On this grim path, rather than finding a violent death, he would find family, purpose, and a brotherhood amid the misfit world of the war fighter. No Joy sees David recounting madcap tales of Muay Thai bouts in seedy garages, a bizarre stint as a street cop, being on the other side of the badge, becoming a veteran of the psych ward, and more. It's an irreverently told story that doesn't just tell one man's tale, but speaks to the necessary question: What really draws modern young men to war?

A realistic, irreverent, no-holds-barred poetic memoir of a Recon Marine living a rockstar’s life.

Only David Rose could breed morbid degeneracy with military honor to create a memoir that rode to hell and back, on fire, shooting machine guns and nailing sloots along the way.

Historia
When Marie Colvin was killed by an IED in Homs, Syria, in 2012, at age 56, the world lost one of its most fearless, accomplished, and iconoclastic war correspondents, an eye-patch wearing, party-throwing, and risk-taking female combat reporter who covered the most significant and destructive global calamities of her lifetime. In Extremis: The Life and Death of War Reporter Marie Colvin, written by Colvin’s friend and prizewinning fellow reporter Lindsey Hilsum, is a thrilling and powerful investigation into Colvin’s epic life and tragic death.

Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

Grant becomes your friend
Revisado: 03-09-20
A beautiful and thorough memoir on a man seldom given the attention he deserves in our public history. The only constructive criticism is that I wish the author wrote more about the Grant family after his death, and more particulars about his history.

Historia
When Maecidion dies, the reading of the will is an outrage. Irion, the dead necromancer's kin, watches as coveted heirlooms are given to his enemies. Himself no stranger to black magic, Irion soon embarks on a bitter skirmish to retrieve what should rightfully be his. A composite novel: Tinged with traces of horror and humor, erotica and satire, the world of Mulgara plays host to an ensemble of dark characters.

Dark, gritty, hilarious, and fun. Unmatched prose in a fantastic horror-fantasy world.
Revisado: 12-14-19
Mulgara was a fun journey! The book was short and broken up into three distinct stories which intertwined to build a cruel, cold, fun, and imaginative horror-fantasy world. The use of magic in the book was creative and unique. Rose’s prose is incredible, especially in the most crude parts of the book, testifying to his background as an overseas scholar and US Marine. I recommend Mulgara to any adult looking for a weekend literary adventure into this unique and brilliant fantasy world. I have a feeling we will be seeing more of the Mulgara world. On the audible version, the reader’s voice is pleasant and he does a great job managing the different characters.
