Historia
Professor of psychiatry Elyn R. Saks writes about her struggle with schizophrenia in this unflinching account of her mental illness. In The Center Cannot Hold, Saks draws readers into a nightmare world of medications, a misguided health-care system, and social stigmas. But she would not be defeated. With a strength and force of will that most can only imagine, Saks reclaimed her life and went on to achieve great success.

Helpful and compelling
Revisado: 09-17-23
This book was highly recommended to understand a loved one’s experience with mental illness. I admire Elyn’s bravery to share so vulnerably for a greater purpose. I believe her story and work is making and will make the landscape of the world as we know it… better, more hopeful.
As for some of the critical reviews of the narration, that was not my experience. I listened to this book on 1.3X speed and found it easy to follow and thought it fit the tenor of the content.

Historia
All My Knotted-Up Life is a beautifully crafted portrait of resilience and survival, a poignant reminder of God’s enduring faithfulness, and proof positive that if we ever truly took the time to hear people’s full stories . . . we’d all walk around slack-jawed.

Profoundly honest, gracious and insightful
Revisado: 07-18-23
I’ve never considered myself a memoir reader, but this book came highly recommended and I loved “Feathers from my Nest”. I found Beth’s story to ring so true to the human experience and found it inspiring and encouraging as I journey into my 40’s and look ahead into God’s healing, calling and provision. Thank you Beth for your vulnerability and obedience to share your journey with us all.

Historia
Modern women - who use psychotherapeutic antidepressants at a rate never before seen in history - need liberating now more than ever. The truth is, feminists don't know what liberation is. They have led us into a very boring dead end. Once those fictionalized stereotypes are out of the way - whether they're things that make you gag or things you think look pretty fun - Christians can focus on real women. What did God make real women for?

Thought provoking and inspiring

I listened on 1.5 speed in 3 hours or so. I found the first 3/4 summary and commentary on the evolution of the feminist movement to be a helpful backdrop for the final 1/4 vision for inviting Christian women to translate the principles of our feminine calling to our unique cultures, opportunities and husbands. I’m 43 and recommended it to my 18 year old Bible College daughter wrestling with these same questions I did 20 years ago.

Historia
As Christian women, we sometimes wear different hats and play different roles. We usually find ourselves overstretching and trying to be everything for everybody. In addition, we neglect our emotional, physiological, and mental well-being. As much as we want to do everything and be everything to everybody, we forget that we’re just human and can only go so far. Lack of self-care drains us and makes us empty and dry.

I appreciated this powerful and pointed quick listen especially helpful to Christian women. Self-Care can be twisted in some strange directions, but this was very grounded, logical and biblical. I look forward to working through the questions to find where my own self-care still has gaps as a recovering Christian Super Woman myself.

Historia
If God is holy, then he can’t sin. If God can’t sin, then he can’t sin against you. If he can’t sin against you, shouldn’t that make him the most trustworthy being there is? Best-selling author Jackie Hill Perry, in her much anticipated follow-up to Gay Girl, Good God, helps us find the reason we don’t trust God - we misunderstand his holiness. In Holier Than Thou, Jackie walks us through Scripture, shaking the dust off of “holy” as we’ve come to know it and revealing it for what it really is: good news.

The Echo of Reverance
Revisado: 03-29-22
In a world filled with echo chambers of unholiness. Jackie’s reverent reflections on the Holiness of our God is a beautiful echo in stark contrast to what my world is filled with day by day. Thank you for sharing in it.
