Great Urban Fantasy
Revisado: 06-22-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Things Unseen to be better than the print version?
I would say the quality was equal to the print version.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Things Unseen?
Anything involving the vampire crime lord.
Have you listened to any of Chris Lester’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have. This one is as good as any (very good!).
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No.
Any additional comments?
It’s a fast read for its size. There’s plenty of sex (though nothing so explicit as to be labeled erotica), action, and intrigue. We see the world through several sets of eyes, but its done in such a way that I never got “head hopping” motion sickness. At any given time we’re only getting one character’s point of view. It makes the experience of the world deeper in this case. What makes this story even better is that it doesn’t stop at the surface level. Underneath the excitement and mystery, this story is about identity and how much you can lose or gain before you stop being “you”. Most of the main characters undergo some significant changes in body, mind and/or spirit. The experience tears some of them down, killing them, and causes tremendous growth in others. It’s that character development that really makes this book worth reading.
If you’re a fan of urban fantasy, Shadowrun, or just good old fashioned adventure then you should check this book out. I give it five out of five elf ears.

Historia
The first short story collection from Matthew Wayne Selznick focuses on revelations of clarity and epiphanies of character in the face of emotional challenges. Also included are brief essays exploring the formative experiences and memories that inspired each short story, making this collection Matthew Wayne Selznick's most personal creative work to date.

Convert to literary fiction?
Revisado: 08-10-15
What did you love best about Four Stories?
The degree to which I identified with the characters
What did you like best about this story?
While it's not the stories per se, I LOVED the author's notes he included after each one. I anticipate that it will enrich later listenings. (And I will be listening to all of them again,)
What about Matthew Wayne Selznick’s performance did you like?
As any good narrator does, he brings the whole thing to life, but more than that as the author and a talented narrator, Matt brings a passion and emotion to the stories that no one else could.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. I was forced to break it up but it would be awesome to let the four tales unroll in one session.
Any additional comments?
If all non-genre fiction (or all fiction period) could be this engaging, I'd be a happy reader. My only complaint is that one of the stories is more "scene" or vignette than story. Still, all were enjoyable.

Builds to an intense finish!
Revisado: 05-16-14
Would you listen to The List again? Why?
I don't typically relisten to stories, but I listened to this twice already. The reading was very, very good and enhanced the story.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I'm torn. I like Miles Bell, the protagonist, but I also liked Duul. The former because Mierau did a good job making him an even character. The latter because, DEMON!
Which scene was your favorite?
The fight between Miles and Kenna. Very intense.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No.
Any additional comments?
The writing could have been tightened up a little. The beginning was slow, but about a third of the way through everything picked up.
