Historia
"The Golden Brat", Reinhard von Lohengramm, a military prodigy and admiral of the Galactic Empire, has ambitions beyond protecting the borders or even defeating the empire's enemies. He seeks to overthrow the old order and become a truly absolute - yet benevolent - dictator. His rival, the humble Yang Wen-li of the Free Planets Alliance, wishes to preserve democracy even if he must sacrifice his political ideals to defeat the empire.

From two former military officers and award-winning authors comes a chillingly authentic geopolitical thriller that imagines a naval clash between the US and China in the South China Sea in 2034 - and the path from there to a nightmarish global conflagration.

Shockingly meh
Revisado: 03-14-23
It’s really hard to express how “meh” this is. I never thought it would be possible to make a world war boring but the authors did it. I ended up rooting for the Chinese to win. The characters are all hodgepodges of better characters from other more popular stories. Sometimes even their names are borrowed from the characters they are based on! The countries are stereotypes and caricatures, especially Russia. Countries not called America are bumbling and incompetent as the story needs them to be. Some people call it realism I think it is vaguely racist and gross. Imagine the most creatively bankrupt boomer take you can possibly imagine and this book is it.

Revisado: 12-05-19
Some of the more enjoyable sci-fi released in the last few years. Anyone who is a fan of Robotech, lensman, Macross, or Halo should really enjoy this series. The writer plays to his strengths and Macleod Andrews is good as always.

Historia
In 2007, two Israeli news publications, Israel Today and News First Class, reported that the most famous rabbi in Israel's modern history, 108-year-old Yitzhak Kaduri, had left a cryptic death note revealing the name of the long-awaited Messiah. Within a year after the rabbi's death, the note was reported to have been verified as authentic by some of Kaduri's closest followers and then placed on Kaduri's own website (Kaduri.net).

Interesting take on the event and man
Revisado: 11-07-18
The book is pure speculation based on what has become an embarrassing event in Israel. Was the note real? IDK
Did Kaduri believe in the Messiah? IDK
I do know that I found this book an entertaining dive into the events and life of a great man. The writer has done good work here and is honestly providing his personal perspective with no subterfuge.

Historia
The epic and highly anticipated conclusion to the listener-favorite series that had countless Audible listeners (and employees) hooked from the very first Bob - featuring, as always, a flawless performance from the inimitable Ray Porter. Being a sentient spaceship really should be more fun. But after spreading out through space for almost a century, Bob and his clones just can't stay out of trouble. They've created enough colonies so humanity shouldn't go extinct.

Good but faltering
Revisado: 11-04-18
The Good
I’ve written in a previous review that Bobiverse books are social justice warrior Science Fiction at its best. Formerly white privileged super intelligence Bob is at it again putting white Christian people in their place across the known galaxy. Now in the body of a transgender android Bob learns there are so many new things to cry over, and even more bigots to oppose. Marriage equality in outer space is the most original idea in decades! He also learns to respect the wisdom of disadvantaged, undocumented species he finds in Delta Eridani. If you are tired of sci fi that just isn’t PC enough but don’t want the preachiness of some of the many PC writers out there this is the series for you. Pretty much every other chapter gives you another chance to cry for the under privileged classes, human and non-human. Karl Marx was right all along about space adventures.
The Bad
The ending resolution is bit underwhelming. The fascist villains were great but the final battle went too quick. I cried tears of joy a bit when the they were defeated and the galactic diversity was restored but not as much as I thought I would.

Historia
There's a reason We Are Legion was named Audible's Best Science Fiction Book of 2016: Its irresistibly irreverent wit! Bob Johansson has just sold his software company for a small fortune and is looking forward to a life of leisure. The first item on his to-do list: Spending his newfound windfall. On an urge to splurge, he signs up to have his head cryogenically preserved in case of death. Then he gets himself killed crossing the street. Waking up 117 years later, Bob discovers his mind has been uploaded into a sentient space probe with the ability to replicate itself.

The best of the woke SJW Sci Fi
Revisado: 11-02-18
Yeah, the tide of woke sci-fi is overwhelming and getting kinda formula but some of it is still pretty good. Taylor’s work in this series is undeniably solid and entertaining. It’s not preachy and it’s white, beta male, god powered main character is actually very likable and sometimes quite funny. I feel like the key to success in this book series is that it really does have a true nerd at its heart. It’s sense of wonder and excitement at the possibilities of its universe transcends the wokeness.
If you are a fan of sci-fi you owe it too yourself to at least give this series a try. Left, Right whatever, give this book a chance and I think you will enjoy it.

In a galaxy far, far away
Revisado: 03-14-18
This is by far one of the best Star Wars novels since Timothy Zahn kicked off the EU way back when. Seriously, this is good space opera somewhere between Lensman and Star Wars. Darth Sullus is going to be an awesome emperor after he sweeps away the last remnants of the Old Republic. At that point the regional governors will have direct control. I kind of feel bad they killed obiwan and yoda in the same battle but John 117 will get revenge. Princess Leah is pretty much ignored. Mace Windu gets a demotion but he gets his “yes, they deserved to die and I hope they burn in #$&€)” moment. Han Solo, who appears in the second half of the book, really shines. He pretends not to care but we all know the truth. Wait, actually I think that is John 117. The Clone Troopers are much more sympathetic in this version of the universe but we do get to see the first glimpse of Storm Troopers by the end. I guess this will make it more shocking when the Clones activate Order 66. The Force is with this series, always. Yes, this review is tongue in cheek and so is the book. This is clearly a reboot of SW and it is worthy. If you hate the new SW just read this, it’s SW done better.

YA murder fantasy
Revisado: 02-26-18
The writing is excellent to be sure but the main character, is except for one formulaic scene, an unstoppable teen killing machine. If you are into a kid beating up and murdering other kids and adults with zero consequences like Hunger Games on crack, well this is the book for you. Had this book simply been an alternative history of Rome it would be an amazing 5 Star book. Instead it’s just ok.

Hero + self doubt = crisis, magic god power at the last second
Revisado: 11-18-17
Sanderson’s stories have a formula and let’s face it. It’s the same formula every book. Is it a good formula? Yes. This is a great story. If it hadn’t already been told in Mistborn and Elantris I’d say this is the best series out there. Just like with E.E. Doc Smith a master storyteller can get away with the same formula this many times.
So here is the formula:
Start with a world where nobody knows the history. Hero + self doubt = crisis. Stretch that crisis out for 25 hours. Create a hidden villain secretly controlling everything. Add a misdirection as a twist. Magic god power at the last second to save everyone. Repeat every book but just up the scale and the stakes.
