Beyond Lake Avernus and the entrance to Hades
Revisado: 04-23-25
II have always been fascinated by the gods of Greek mythology and admire how Jennifer Armentrout takes us beyond their traditional roles. She masterfully crafts a vivid description of Nyktos' realm, the Primal of Death, who is connected to the mortal Seraphina—a princess destined to become his consort. Sera's kingdom is plagued by the Rot, and her people are starving. From birth, she has known that the land will continue to decline unless she seduces and kills the Primal of Death. However, since meeting Nyktos, there has been a burning attraction between them. Despite this, Sera has been trained to be a challenging consort and continues to defy the Primal of Death. No matter how much they seem destined for each other, they remain at odds.
Although Sera is a princess, she was not treated like one. She was brought up to be self-reliant, focusing solely on her warrior skills without forming close relationships or friendships. Her only constant companion has been her teacher and trainer, Sir Holland, whose instruction is unparalleled. Sera is aware of a power within her that allows her to revive the dead with her will and touch. She keeps this power hidden, choosing to use it only on animals, knowing instinctively that it must be concealed. Nyktos discovers this Ember of Life, gifted to her by his father, Ethos. Sera is key to the survival of both the realms of gods and mortals.
Nyktos' father, Ethos, was the true Primal of Life, but his twin brother Kolis stole that power, killing Ethos and becoming the oppressive false King of the Gods. Kolis, obsessed with his love for Satoria, continues to pursue her memory even after her death. Nyktos and his allies work to unravel why Ethos placed the Ember of Life within Sera, while constantly battling Kolis's spies and assassins. This book is captivating and romantic, and Stina Nielsen's narration is perfect—I could listen to her for hours!

Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Dragons & Magic..not on par with Harry Potter tho
Revisado: 04-08-25
I do love the context and storyline. Sometimes the narrator makes the story sound more like a "Power Rangers" or "Ninja Turtles" type of story. The narrator, Violet, sounds constantly as if she is yelling, chastising, condemning, or just a righteous sounding person. Yelling out each sentence doesn't help enjoy this series. Although, Fourth Wing was addictive and made me immediately want to continue to Book 2, Iron Flame. Violet, the heroine of the story is supposed to be extremely intelligent, caring, charismatic, and someone the reader can fall in love with. However, with the voice of righteousness and chastising, she is a bit unlikeable. I don't know how Xaden can be so head over heels in love with Violet, Xaden must love being constantly chastised, and having an ultimatum over him. There are too many scenes where Violet is so in love with Xaden, except for the many conditions she won't accept about Xaden. For instance, Violet wants no secrets between them, is irrational. Why does Xaden have to discuss things that he must keep confidential for her own protection or for the Council's "Need to Know" basis? I wish there was more character development instead of the constant action scenes, There seems to be never any down time to nourish, rest, think, or time alone. This time frame is during ancient times where there is no electricity and modern conveniences, it would have been interesting to hear more about the way of life then. Again, the characters sound like they are all in modern day highschool and would be more interesting to know of their customs and lifestyle. My favorite character is Andarna, Violet's 2nd dragon who is still a toddler going on young adolescence. It is always more refreshing to hear the voices of both her Dragons: Taryn and Andarna.

An exasperating situation
Revisado: 03-23-25
The beginning of the story begins with Sarah’s husband’s death and the aftermath of the funeral. Sarah is grief -stricken while Sarah’s sister is checking up her sister in a loving way. Making sure she is sleeping, eating, and mind can be be comforted. Melissa even cleans up Sarah’s house and makes her a delicious breakfast. Sarah treats Melissa as if she is just annoying. Doesn’t confide to her that the death of her husband is being investigated as a homicide or that she is pregnant. Even with the police, Sarah doesn’t confide immediately about Dante ‘s intrusion, or the Eternal Life application. So Sarah’s life begins to spiral out of control . Sarah’s personality shows that she is the damsel in distress. It appears as if Sarah is too emotionally unstable to make decisions and communicate vital information to her sister or the police. So Sarah has gotten herself into a situation where the eternal life program has over taken her life, where, this computer AI program sends texts and photos that seem to come from Sarah’s phone. Any way, the rest of the story reveals the consequences for her unstable decisions of requesting and accepting the AI version of her dead husband.

Too perfect of a boyfriend and girlfriend
Revisado: 03-20-25
Storybook fairy tale of a love story that went wrong, however, the main characters miraculously can relive the past five years. The story heroine is beautiful inside and outside. The constant description of how perfect she is became a bit too redundant. Henry is also described as the perfect gentleman, even though he came from a rough childhood. I’ve never met a guy who is willing to help out by cleaning and washing dishes after his own 12 hour work shift. How does a troubled guy overcome his insecurities without role models? Henry is a guy that knows how to groom himself and attracts all the ladies. And is the perfect gentleman. I wish I could believe in the story’s main characters: Grace and Henry. I loved the narrators! They did a great job!

Beautifully Written!
Revisado: 02-02-25
This novel is so good!!! Abraham Verghese beautifully narrates this book. Each word is riveting from the beginning....I wanted to know more. I wish the book could go on forever! I fell in love with each character, and felt part of each event of the story! Also, I was inspired to learn more and became more curious in learning medical diseases. I love how this "condition" makes a person "eccentric" as well as super interesting. Must read!

Historia
Sir John Penlyon is planning to spend Christmas at his estate with his niece and his friend Danby, the closest thing he has to family since disowning his daughter years ago. (She eloped with the parson, who was, of course, penniless.) Danby suggests that at Christmastime the estate needs the presence of small children, and offers to find some - the “hirelings” - despite Sir John’s skepticism. Three children duly arrive, and the youngest, precocious four year-old Moppet, quickly endears herself to Sir John.

Christmas is best with Children
Revisado: 11-01-24
I love the narrator, Richard Armitage. He performed this story perfectly ! The story takes us to a very happy place during Christmas time. The author also provides a backstory of each character. The main two characters have been friends and now elders. One of them, Danby is the best natured and warm hearted and never have had his own children. The other man, Sir John is a widower and had 2 daughters, one who had died without children and the other daughter, Sybil, was disinherited because she had run off with an unapproved man. Danby always had watched over Sybil and her three children. This Christmas, Danby hired 3 children to cheer Sir John ‘s holiday, unknowingly to Sir John, these are his grandchildren. The story warns the heart but realistic of lifelong grudges.

The sisterhood
Revisado: 07-05-24
This story was mainly about all of the 10 Dune series. The sisterhood hardly had very much time with in the story. I learned more of the Atreides backstory and partials of the other series rather than just the sisterhood. This story should be called an introduction to all of the other characters and their stories as well.

Love it!
Revisado: 06-20-24
I love that the Reverend Mother Mohaim gave Baron Harkonen the disease which slowly makes him weak and obese! I always chuckled when he became fatter and weaker and couldn’t do anything about it. The House Harkonen is evil, corrupt, and always up to “no good.” What a fantastic bad guy family analysis! The writers made me continue to dislike the idiot nephew, “Riband,” their loyal servants, and how the Harkonen’s constantly try to create chaos. The writers describe each character more interesting within the backstories about them.
These characters and their stories are very addictive!

Exasperating Toxic Relationships!
Revisado: 05-30-24
The story was not like “The Rainbow,” Part 1 of the Brangwin Family. Part 2 felt much more about Goodrun and how she played games in her relationships. Ursula too was insensitive and played games . These types of relationships were irritatingly disconcerting. I did want to quit the book several times, but didn’t mind listening while gardening.
The narrator’s voice was shrill and not like the sweet voice of Maureen O’Hara who narrates the Rainbow. This narrator made the dialogue much like a slapstick comedy show and unpleasant to listen to the actual story.

Wonderful!
Revisado: 05-20-24
D. H. Lawrence is brilliant! What a wonderful writer! He describes complex people who live in the 1920s and their thoughts and families. These families are not Aristocrats or titled. These people are just people with thoughts and intelligence who journey through their lives experiencing what joy children are or the bliss of consummation. It is a delightful novel to connect with these feelings and thoughts.
Maureen O’Brien is the best narrator, I wished she narrated Part 2, Women in Love.
