Historia
A genealogy test sparks a woman’s reflection on the two accounts of her life--the real one and the one she’s always told the world--in this poignant short story by Cheryl Strayed, the bestselling author of Wild. In 1964, teenage Geraldine Waters was sent away by her parents to an unwed mothers’ home, where she gave up her newborn for adoption. Ever since, she’s lived an alternative narrative. Decades later, it’s time for Geraldine to reconcile the telling of her life, to finally grieve, and to discover what happened to that part of her past that slipped away.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

EXCELLENT VACATION READ!!!
Revisado: 10-03-23
I love this book. Plain and simple. It had all you need in a book. I went to Maine for my vacation in September, and my friend met me there during the vacation. We planned to have a "Maine book." I chose this for us as it's written by Mr. King who lives in Maine and writes in Maine. The story partially takes place in Maine and in Dallas where my friend and I live. She read the actual book, and I listened to the Audible performance. Craig Wasson did a masterful job of bringing the characters to life. I'm late to the game becoming a Stephen King fan at age 65. My youngest son who is 27 has been reading Mr. King's books since he was about 12 years old. He knows all the "ins-and-outs" of his novels and works. I really appreciated Stephen's voice at the end of the book. I agree with him. I'm sorry, Tabitha. I'm usually all for the "girls" in this world, but this time, I had to side with your husband!!! Also, fun fact, my friend that joined me in Maine had Stephen King's daughter as her Unitarian minister in Carrollton, TX a few years back. Small world, huh? History and harmonics!!! xoxo

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Harry, You Did Quite Well!
Revisado: 02-27-23
As a mental health therapist, I was curious to hear Harry’s story. He also learned that as we heal, we often are estranged from family members who don’t prescribe to being healed from the traumas of our past. Harry’s words are a reminder that no amount of money nor privilege can shield us from developmental traumas.

Historia
In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

I AM a Dr. Gabor Mate fan!! Big Time, but...
Revisado: 10-10-22
I love all that Dr. Mate writes and speaks about. As a matter of fact, if you haven't watched the documentary The Wisdom of Trauma, please find it and watch it. Everyone could benefit from watching this documentary. Much of this book is quite wonderful. There are chapters, I struggled to get through without rushing them. I bet Daniel Mate is a genius in his own right, but this non-fiction book didn't call for a change of voices. (In this humble narrator's opinion.). If this is your only time to get to know Dr. Gabor's teaching, then, this book is fabulous! If you've watched tons of his Youtube vids as I have, then you know quite a bit of this literature. I'm not saying that it's not worth hearing his teaching another time, and there are new nuggets to glean from this book. As I stated, certain chapters didn't seem needed, and I really wish Dr. Mate had read his book although I applaud any parent/adult child teaming up for such important work.

Historia
In 2009, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed at the Super Bowl's halftime show. The experience was so exhilarating that Bruce decided to write about it. That's how this extraordinary autobiography began. Over the past seven years, Bruce Springsteen has privately devoted himself to writing the story of his life, bringing to this audio the same honesty, humor, and originality found in his songs.

Historia
Craig Ferguson has defied the odds his entire life. He has failed when he should have succeeded and succeeded when he should have failed. The fact that he is neither dead nor in a locked facility (at the time of printing) is something of a miracle in itself. In Craig’s candid and revealing memoir, listeners will get a look into the mind and recollections of the unique and twisted Scottish American who became a national hero for pioneering the world’s first TV robot skeleton sidekick and reviving two dudes in a horse suit dancing as a form of entertainment.

Historia
Garlic and Sapphires is Ruth Reichl's riotous account of the many disguises she employs to dine anonymously. There is her stint as Molly Hollis, a frumpy blond with manicured nails and an off-beige Armani suit that Ruth takes on when reviewing Le Cirque. The result: her famous double review of the restaurant: First she ate there as Molly; and then as she was coddled and pampered on her visit there as Ruth, New York Times food critic.

Not Bad...
Revisado: 03-21-21
This wouldn’t have been my choice. I’m part of a book club so this book was a choice one month. I cooked a few of the recipes. Being a vegetarian, many of these foods discussed aren’t appealing to me. Ruth is an interesting writer. There’s a bit of The NY Times monied snooty-ness as I would expect. Not a bad read if you are a foodie.

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

What A Story Teller!
Revisado: 09-16-20
We took a long drive this week and listened to this book both coming and going on our journey. Trevor is a perfect story teller! He’s been blessed with a unique point of view. What an homage to his mom! The book is well-written, but my favorite part is Trevor’s performance! Thank you, Trevor Noah, for your gifts! America loves you!

Historia
There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.

I Wanted...
Revisado: 06-25-20
To love this book. I really did. I love the concept of untamed women. I just didn’t love all the self-congratulatory manner found throughout the book. When it’s good, it’s spot on. When it’s not, it’s too much Glennon giving herself high fives for being special. I agree she is a special writer. So, suppose I can’t honestly explain my gripe with many portions of the book. Read it. Or listen to it. I could be wrong.
