Historia
The celebrated 2010 HBO miniseries The Pacific, winner of eight Emmy Awards, was based on two classic books about the War in the Pacific, Helmet for My Pillow and With The Old Breed. Audible Studios, in partnership with Playtone, the production company co-owned by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, and creator of the award-winning HBO series Band of Brothers, John Adams, and The Pacific, as well as the HBO movie Game Change, has created new recordings of these memoirs, narrated by the stars of the miniseries.

Must Read
Revisado: 01-11-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, absolutely. There is a lot written about the European campaign and justly so. This book is an absolute read for people who thought the Pacific was minor theatre of the war.
Leckie is a remarkable writer.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Helmet for My Pillow?
Leckie's feelings regarding the "mushroom" bomb.
Which scene was your favorite?
Leckie telling his commander he was being ordered to the hospital.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Pelilieu (?) could have been left to wither on the vine. The lst Marines were slaughtered and they they got up and kept fighting. Terrible, terrible losses.
Any additional comments?
What they sacrificed must never be forgotten. It's unbelievable to read what they endured. Leckie puts you right in to it.

Historia
When Chuck Tatum began Marine boot camp, he was just a smart-aleck teenager eager to serve his country. Little did he know that he would be training under a living legend of the Corps - Medal of Honor recipient John Basilone, who had almost single-handedly fought off a Japanese force of three thousand on Guadalcanal.

Very descriptive of making a marine

Where does Red Blood, Black Sand rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Low. You cannot beat Sledge's With the Old Breed
Who was your favorite character and why?
Favorite? It's all about Tatum. I really wanted to know more about Basilone as the title implies and there's hardly anything about Basilone.
Would you be willing to try another one of Norman Dietz’s performances?
NO
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not really-- the book was lost in the tedious performance.
Any additional comments?
I feel that there is more understanding of the situations when they are performed by people of the age of these boys that were sacrificed. This was like patiently listening to gran pa tell a very, very long story. Again, Sledge's book and Helmet for my Pillow brings the real life of what they went through.
