Historia
When a reclusive market gardener's death proves to stem from a 20-year-old bullet wound, Lieutenant Joe Gunther is presented with a very cold homicide to solve. But who was the victim exactly? A deeply private man eking out an ascetic existence from a hardscrabble mountain field, Abraham Fuller was virtually unknown to his neighbors, in the manner of someone pursuing more than mere solitude. The discovery of a bag full of unmarked bills and a body buried in the garden patch suggests that Fuller had motives beyond misanthropy.

Excellent, detailed, gripping mystery!
Revisado: 03-19-24
Recently came across Archer Mayor’s mysteries, and have been binge-listening them ever since. Hard to find such detailed, complicated and gripping mysteries, with the added bonus of a fantastic narrator to bring them to life. Particularly appreciate the level of research and technical accuracy of many highly complex scenes. Absolutely love Arcer Mayor’s books!

Good story; great setting; main character flawed.
Revisado: 01-18-24
Overall, the book is enjoyable. Narrator very good; believable, and easy to loose self in the story. Love the setting of the story, as well as many other supporting characters. One criticism: main character is annoying, immature, and self-centered. As he makes stupid decisions at every key point, the main characters’s behavior does not match his supposed level of intelligence or maturity. Hopefully the character will develop as the author’s skills increase in subsequent books. I definitely liked the book enough to continue the series, and look forward to more from this author.

Historia
Leo Stone is a ruthless killer or the victim of a miscarriage of justice. A year ago, he was convicted of the murder of two women and sentenced to life in prison. But now he's free, and according to him, he's innocent. DS Maeve Kerrigan and DI Josh Derwent are determined to put Stone back behind bars where he belongs, but the more Maeve finds out, the less convinced she is of his guilt. Then another woman disappears in similar circumstances. Is there a copycat killer, or have they been wrong about Stone from the start?

Caroline Lennon destroyed Maeve Kerrigan!
Revisado: 05-08-23
Like so many others have said, Lennon’s narration is truly awful, and has ruined the book. Bring back Sarah Coomes.

Historia
At first glance, Jellicoe Close seems to be a perfect suburban street – well-kept houses with pristine lawns, neighbours chatting over garden fences, children playing together. But there are dark secrets behind the neat front doors, hidden dangers that include a ruthless criminal who will stop at nothing. It’s up to DS Maeve Kerrigan and DI Josh Derwent to uncover the truth. Posing as a couple, they move into the Close, blurring the lines between professional and personal as never before.

Great story; terrible narration.
Revisado: 05-08-23
Despite being a fan of all Jane Casey’s MAEVE KERRIGAN books, this is my last one with this narrator, who has absolutely RUINED them. With her grating tone, odd inflection, and lack of variation, Caroline Lennon’s narration makes it very difficult to get drawn into the story, and nearly impossible really know the ‘voice’ of the individual characters. So dissaponting!
Did no one producing these books READ THE REVIEWS OF BOOKS 8 & 9? They say the same as this review; that the stories were great, but the narration was awful. I’ve struggled through books 8 and 9, but this one, #10, is the last with this narrator. I can’t even finish it. PLEASE bring back Sarah Coomes! I mourn the loss of these engrossing stories and wonderful characters.

Historia
In the early 70s, some of us were shot like stars from our parents' homes. This was an act of nature, bigger than ourselves. In the austere beauty and natural reality of Hell's Canyon of Eastern Oregon, 100 miles from pavement, Pam, unable to identify with her parent's world and looking for deeper pathways has a chance encounter with returning Vietnam warrior Skip Royes. Skip, looking for a bridge from survival back to connection, introduces Pam to the vanishing culture of the wandering shepherd and together they embark on a four-year sojourn into the wilderness.

A lovely transportive reminiscence.
Revisado: 10-26-21
A wonderful reminiscence about about a time not far in the past, full of a certain kind of innocence and freedom lost to us now. It fills me with nostalgia and ennui. A lovely, transportive story.

Historia
A body always tells a story - but this child’s was a blank page. Rita reached for the lantern. She trained its light on the child’s face. "Who are you?" she murmured, but the face said as little as the rest of her. It was impossible to tell whether, in life, these blunt and unfinished features had borne the imprint of prettiness, timid watchfulness, or sly mischief. If there had once been curiosity or placidity or impatience here, life had not had time to etch it into permanence. Only a very short time ago, the body and soul of this little girl had still been securely attached.

A Fabulous Tale!
Revisado: 01-18-19
This is the book I have been yearning for! A fabulous tale that swirls deeper and deeper into the lives along the River Thames, capturing new tales as tributaries within its course. Juliet Stevenson is a wonderful storyteller, with a captivating voice that effortlessly pulls the reader along the journey of its telling, as each new part of the story reveals itself. Will be one of my very favorites for a long time to come. I am sorry to have it end!
