Historia
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time. He then investigates the nature of childhood, including why children need play and independent exploration to mature into competent, thriving adults. Haidt shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s.

Entertaining but not amazing
Revisado: 11-04-23
Enjoyed listening about Britney's early career and some of the major moments. Wished there had been more focus on mental health - but it was written as though that didn't play any part of the life narrative (aside from a brief period post partum).

Useful ideas and tips
Revisado: 08-30-23
Really enjoyed looking at parenting approaches in other cultures to help question so many things that we take for granted as the norm. However early in the book the author cautions against romanticizing other cultures although seems to do that throughout the book.
I did feel like I was able to put a number of ideas and suggestions in to practice though after finishing this.

Historia
In a powerful and gripping debut, Rachel Aviv raises fundamental questions about how we understand ourselves in periods of crisis and distress. Drawing on deep, original reporting as well as unpublished journals and memoirs, Aviv writes about people who have come up against the limits of psychiatric explanations for who they are. Animated by a profound sense of empathy, Aviv’s exploration is refracted through her own account of living in a hospital ward at the age of six and meeting a fellow patient with whom her life runs parallel—until it no longer does.

Historia
The Absorbent Mind was Maria Montessori's most in-depth work on her educational theory, based on decades of scientific observation of children. Her view on children and their absorbent minds was a landmark departure from the educational model at the time. This book helped start a revolution in education. Since this book first appeared there have been both cognitive and neurological studies that have confirmed what Maria Montessori knew decades ago.

Robotic narration is hard to listen to
Revisado: 07-15-23
This book was suggested to me to better understand the Montessori method. The age of the book is felt throughout the entire thing. The narration is also very robotic and appears to have errors throughout. I have read other reviews that say the audio book differs from the written book and am curious to know how. A few points were interesting but so many claims move forward with little basis or bizarre justification.
