Good Story-- Poor Performance
Revisado: 04-16-25
This book was tolerable, however, it could have been great if the reader had put more emotion into his performance. The flat monotone presentation with very little emotion did not do the author any favors.

A great story ruined by too many details
Revisado: 01-07-25
I struggled through this book. To many nitty details that had nothing to do with the story. It was like walking through Molasses to get to the point. Maybe worst audible book i ever listened to.

Historia
When fifteen-year-old Oscar Dreyer-Hoff disappears in this “masterpiece” (Booklist, starred review), the police assume he’s simply a runaway—a typically overlooked middle child doing what teenagers do all around the world. But his frantic family is certain that something terrible has happened. After all, what runaway would leave behind a note that reads:

This was OK. However, I wouldn't call it great
Revisado: 03-16-24
The story wondered around and at times got lost in details. The performance was very good. I would say that this is an OK book. However, I certainly wouldn't have expected it to be a best seller.

Historia
Drawing on previously unpublished eyewitness accounts, prizewinning historian Donald L. Miller has written what critics are calling one of the most powerful accounts of warfare ever published. Here are the horror and heroism of World War II in the words of the men who fought it, the journalists who covered it, and the civilians who were caught in its fury. Miller gives us an up-close, deeply personal view of a war that was more savagely fought - and whose outcome was in greater doubt - than one might imagine. This is the war that Americans on the home front would have read about had they had access to previously censored testimony.

Do you dare step through the red door? Spencer Grant had no idea what drew him to the bar with the red door. He thought he would just sit down, have a slow beer or two, and talk to a stranger. He couldn’t know that it would lead to a narrow escape from a bungalow targeted by a SWAT team. Or that it would leave him a wanted man. But now Spencer is on the run from mysterious and ruthless men. He is in love with a woman he knows next to nothing about. And he is hiding from a past he can’t fully remember.

Not one of Koontz's best
Revisado: 12-03-19
The character development in this story was overdone to the point of being tedious and boring. In a way this detracted from a pretty good story. If this book had been shorter leaving out some of the droning hours of character development I think it would have been pretty good. Honestly I couldn't wait for this read to be over--It was a little painful, however, I did want to see how thing's turned out.I listened to another Koontz book, "Watchers" which was an excellent book, therefore I know he can write a good story.

Historia
An idyllic weekend camping trip is cut short when Reese Wallace's friends are brutally murdered. As the group's only survivor, Reese is the prime suspect, and his story doesn't make much sense. A disembodied voice warning him to leave the campground the night before? A strange, blackened tree that gave him an electric shock when he cut it down for firewood?

good story--The performance needs help
Revisado: 12-03-19
The basic story is pretty good, however, the narrator doesn't do this book justice. Her voice is pleasant enough, however, she uses no tone changes or inflections to differentiate between male and female characters. For the first part of the story I thought the main character, Reese, was a woman and not a man!

Fantatic Book One of the best I have listened to
Revisado: 12-03-19
This is a fantastic read!! The story is well developed, full of action, and twist through non stop action with some romance thrown in!!!! The character development in excellent with just enough main characters to keep the story interesting, without adding too many characters that make things confusing. The narrator is excellent, bringing out the emotion of the story and using voice tone and inflections to differentiate between the characters.
