Good story but weak writing and performance
Revisado: 07-22-16
Would you try another book from T. Jackson King and/or Somerset Hamilton?
I like the story concept and I think overall I will continue to read the series. The problem I have with the book is that the writing is a bit childish, not realistic, and the narrator who has a good overall speaking voice seemed to enhance the writing issue with some of his word emphasis. I do think the tech that was involved was done well but the pirate crew was a bit weak and didn't rise to the level of what I think a starship crew would be.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the story line about alien abduction and the tables being turned on slavers. It is a bit like a pirate story. I also liked the concept of an AI running a ship.
Would you be willing to try another one of Somerset Hamilton’s performances?
Yes, I think his speaking voice is okay, better than some I have listened to. I just don't think it worked with the writing very well.
Do you think Escape from Aliens, Book 1 needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes, I want to see how things end up.
Any additional comments?
I would suggest that the author, who does seem to have good ideas, work a bit more on realistic character development and interaction.

Great story with lots of action
Revisado: 05-23-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The story is awesome with lots of action and intrigue. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for drama, action, suspense, and of course, Sci-Fi!
What other book might you compare The Cost of Victory to and why?
Lost Fleet - lots of space action and the reality of physics is not ignored.
What didn’t you like about Jeff Bower’s performance?
His delivery was weak and without emotion. Most of his voice were childish squeaky and without emotion.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely not! It wasn't the story that was the problem it was Jeff Bowers! I want someone reading the book that can get some emotion showing and can do decent character voices. I will definitely look to see if he is doing any books I listen to in the future. I still like to actually read and I may just opt to read vs listen if he is narrating.

Into the Breach
Revisado: 11-13-08
I started this book with some concern that it wouldn't live up to my high hopes. I was very happy to find that it grabbed my attention right away. The description of the battle that led to the ship entering the storm captivated me right away. The author kept up with detail but also came up with an interesting approach to a parallel Earth. I very much enjoyed how the crew of the Walker deal with a local threat and the need to find resources that don't exist yet. The author did a great job of keeping the story interesting and on target. I look forward to the next book in this series!
