Most people - even people of faith - do not understand how the Bible fits together. Too many Christians accept half an inheritance, content to embrace merely the New Testament, while Jewish people may often experience the same by embracing only the Old Testament. But God has an intricate plan and purpose for both the Old and the New. In Mysteries of the Messiah, Rabbi Jason Sobel reveals the many connections in Scripture hidden in plain sight. Known for his emphatic declaration “but there’s more!” he guides us in seeing the passion and purpose of the Messiah.

Not the insightful life-changing book I was promised
Revisado: 11-15-24
I thought a messianic Christian would be able to deliver insights into the new testament, but sadly not this author... silly meaningless numerology combined with Jewish commentary from ancient Rabbis who did know Jesus, wrote extensively how to spot the Messiah when He comes, but so blind they completely missed Him. Not much help.

Entertaining Biblical Fiction, but...
Revisado: 09-08-23
Good story. The author used inspired imagination to concoct fillers and links to fill the gaps in many gospel accounts of Jesus', but be careful... the author's stitches holding together the Bible's eye witness account often de-sensationalize the facts to fit into a liberal mind. The actual accounts are far more miraculous than the author describes and glorify God the Father, Jesus the Son and God the Holy Spirit to a much greater degree than told here.
Still, hats off for a good go at it. Stick out the first very boring and confusing chapter... it gets better. Listen carefully for some fast scene changes that are read like no time has elapsed. All in all, a good story for superstitious robe lovers 8) with a hankering for some history and culture true to the first century.

Historia
Acclaimed historian and best-selling author Paul Johnson’s books have been translated into dozens of languages. In Socrates: A Man for Our Times, Johnson draws from little-known resources to construct a fascinating account of one of history’s greatest thinkers. Socrates transcended class limitations in Athens during the fifth century B.C. to develop ideas that still shape the way we think about the human body and soul, including the workings of the human mind.

Historia
In April of 1846, 21-year-old Sarah Graves, intent on a better future, set out west from Illinois with her new husband, her parents, and eight siblings. Seven months later, after joining a party of pioneers led by George Donner, they reached the Sierra Nevada Mountains as the first heavy snows of the season closed the pass ahead of them. In early December, starving and desperate, Sarah and 14 others set out for California on snowshoes and over the next 32 days endured almost unfathomable hardships and horrors.

Terrifying, Haunting, Suffering
Revisado: 05-12-23
This author drags your soul through ten hours of joyless void. What those emigrants suffered is beyond imagination. The story is a necessary medication against modern privilege, but oh so hard to swallow.
The additional historical context benefits the story greatly but some parts seem to drag through the melodramatic song.
The performer made the best of a cursed tale. Still highly recommended.

Revisado: 02-17-23
Fantastic research and great stats, but listening to stats is really hard... the book might have been better for charts and illustrations.
Mike offers wise advice, but I was saddened by his way over secular response to something that the Christian faith community has known how to solve for a couple thousand years.
As long as political activists continue to pound square pegs into round holes, cities will die by moral implosion.

Christianity could be defined as a “cold case”: it makes a claim about an event from the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence. In Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace uses his nationally recognized skills as a homicide detective to look at the evidence and eyewitnesses behind Christian beliefs. Including gripping stories from his career and the visual techniques he developed in the courtroom, Wallace uses illustration to examine the powerful evidence that validates the claims of Christianity.

A Drama Timeless and Inspiring
Revisado: 11-21-22
SF's creative rendition of the Trojan War is just as captivating as a Harry Potter novel or a Middle Earth fantasy. The performance is skilled and flawless. So much of what we consider Western Civilization is based on Greek foundations that missing this backstop is to miss out on all we hold dear. Perhaps only the Bible deserves more credit for its influences on our lives.

Superb dramatic mythic retelling
Revisado: 10-27-22
Both the story content and performance are excellent. As with all mythologies, there is no "gospel" version written in stone... Fry admits this himself that liberties were taken in this revision to bring more life to many tales.
Still the final result is more than just entertaining because more mythological influences have entered the fabric of western culture than anyone realizes. Fry does a fantastic job of bringing these hidden and veiled foundation up from the ancient dirt so we can review them in the museum he has built for us.
So many times Fry told the story, then finishes with a Paul Harvey "Rest of the Story" icing on the cake.
