Historia
In “You Just Need to Lose Weight,” Aubrey Gordon equips listeners with the facts and figures to reframe myths about fatness in order to dismantle the anti-fat bias ingrained in how we think about and treat fat people. Bringing her dozen years of community organizing and training to bear, Gordon shares the rhetorical approaches she and other organizers employ to not only counter these pernicious myths, but to dismantle the anti-fat bias that so often underpin them.

A must read when talking about bias surrounding bodies fatness! Should be seen as one book of many on anti fat bias, as the author recommends several other books like "The Body Is Not An Apology" and "The Obesity Paradox" in addition to this book

Historia
The Courage to Be Disliked, already an enormous best seller in Asia with more than 3.5 million copies sold, demonstrates how to unlock the power within yourself to be the person you truly want to be. Using the theories of Alfred Adler, one of the three giants of 20th-century psychology, The Courage to Be Disliked follows an illuminating conversation between a philosopher and a young man. The philosopher explains to his pupil how each of us is able to determine our own life, free from the shackles of past experiences, doubts, and the expectations of others.

I thought this was going to be a book on psychology as a science but its actually a philosophy book
Revisado: 02-04-24
I thought that this would be worth my one audible credit per month because it was a psychology book but instead it was a philosophy book and although it is interesting it's definitely not what I thought I was getting into.
athis book is not about a scientific psychological theory it is about a philosophy that is non falsifiable.
This philosophy is very popular in many Asian countries and it is interesting to listen to this worldview but again it is not a science book

Historia
When it was first published, Intuitive Eating was revolutionary in its anti-dieting approach. The authors, both prominent health professionals in the field of nutrition and eating disorders, urge listeners to embrace the goal of developing body positivity and reconnecting with one’s internal wisdom about eating—to unlearn everything they were taught about calorie-counting and other aspects of diet culture and to learn about the harm of weight stigma. Today, their message is more relevant and pressing than ever.

Historia
Evan Stark, founder of one of America's first battered women's shelters, shows how "domestic violence" is neither primarily domestic nor necessarily violent, but a pattern of controlling behaviors more akin to terrorism and hostage-taking. Drawing on court records, interviews, and FBI statistics, Stark details coercive strategies that men use to deny women their very personhood, from "beeper games" to food logs to micromanaging dress, speech, sexual activity, and work.

What's Wrong With Boomers? This book lays it out
Revisado: 08-19-23
This book is one of the best books on the subject of childhood neglect, dysfunctional families and why your boomer parents are so messed up.
The answer is they were raised by people who believed children should be seen & not heard, not express emotions, and not be allowed to feel feelings.
"Stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about"
"Suck it up, nobody cares if you're upset"
"just ignore him when he's crying"
Sayings like these reflect emotionally stunted parents who are triggered by developmentally appropriate behavior in children & threatened by emotions in general who are described at length in this REVOLUTIONARY book!

Historia
Bridging women's history, the history of the South, and African-American history, this audiobook makes a bold argument about the role of white women in American slavery. Historian Stephanie E. Jones-Rogers draws on a variety of sources to show that slave-owning women were sophisticated economic actors who directly engaged in and benefited from the South's slave market.

Deeply Moving Must Read, especially for white wome
Revisado: 08-19-23
Simply put one of the best books written on both the history of enslaved people, their enslavers, and the nature of hatred itself.
White women benefitted from enslaved people, used them to establish a financial foundation for themselves, and resisted the end of slavery because it was the end of their power over the enslaved people they depended on to be financially independent from white men.
please give this a listen. its amazing and horrifying and all to important

Historia
Ancient Egyptian civilization is so grand our minds sometimes have difficulty adjusting to it. It lasted 3,000 years, longer than any other on the planet. Its Great Pyramid of Cheops was the tallest building in the world until well into the 19th century and remains the only Ancient Wonder still standing. And it was the most technologically advanced of the ancient civilizations, with the medical knowledge that made Egyptian physicians the most famous in the world.
