Historia
In the real world, Reinhard Heydrich, the number-two man in the SS and an architect of the Holocaust, was assassinated in Czechoslovakia in May 1942. In The Man with the Iron Heart, Heydrich survives that fated assassination attempt, only to hatch an insurgency as insidious as anything conceived by Osama bin Laden.

Less than I've come to expect from Turtledove
Revisado: 07-25-15
What disappointed you about The Man with the Iron Heart?
It unrealistically superimposed a 21st Century world view on an entirely different era.
What could Harry Turtledove have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
If he were going to replace one of histories' major players, I'd have liked to have seen him take down Hitler and replace him with someone equally evil, but smarter and more calculating. The paper hangers' basic nuttiness was, ironically, a real break for us.
What didn’t you like about William Dufris’s performance?
I had no problem with it.
Any additional comments?
I can't believe that, on the heels of victory, the American people would have been so easily discouraged by Germanys' failure to immediately fold. This is the disheartening way that the current generation has reacted to the trouble in the middle east, which is a big part of why we're still having trouble there. In the wake of 9/11, I found myself wishing that, if the attack had to come, it'd been around 1948, when we were still the country that we used to be.

Historia
If President John Kennedy had survived the ambush at Dealey Plaza in Dallas a half-century ago, what other twists might history have taken? In his meticulously researched novel, Surrounded by Enemies: What If Kennedy Survived Dallas, author Bryce Zabel delivers a supercharged but plausible alternative narrative of the turbulent 1960s after our charismatic president escapes unscathed on November 22, 1963.

Makes a classic "alternate history" mistake
Revisado: 11-16-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
YES! The world portrayed in this book diverges from ours 0n 11/22/63. (Please don't sue me, Steve). If JFK had lived, we would be living in a 2013 that none of us would recognize. Yet, the narrative includes the presidencies of Bill Clinton, Obama and paints Gary Hart as a player. There is no chance that these men would have played the same roles, in this fictional timeline, that they did in ours. Phillip Roth made the same mistake in his WWII book, in which Bobby Kennedy is killed exactly as he was in our world. In the situation that he describes, The Allies would have LOST the war. NYC would have stood in for Hiroshima and we'd all be wearing brown shirts. If you're going to write "alternate history", then make it frikkin' ALTERNATE!!!!
Would you be willing to try another book from Bryce Zabel? Why or why not?
No. See above.
Have you listened to any of Edd Hall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
See above.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Only if the chick playing Marilyn went full frontal.
Any additional comments?
Yeah; alternate means ALTERNATE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doesn't feel part of the cannon
Revisado: 11-16-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
It runs counter to Kings' grand plan; that all of his writing fits neatly into a coherent whole.
Would you recommend Revival to your friends? Why or why not?

Which scene was your favorite?
No opinion.
Could you see Revival being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No opinion.
Any additional comments?
What I love most about dear old Mr. Kings' work is the certain knowledge that opening his latest book is going to take me home, to let me visit, one more time, a carefully constructed, coherent world that I've already come to know. Certain things are given; bad guys rot in Shawshank, good people who are wronged always have a chance to put things right, given that they have the cojones. Stephen Kings' tiered, Simakian multiverse does NOT argue with itself. It would not have bothered me one bit if, right out of the blue, an ironwood door had winked into existence right there in Cambers' dooryard and slammed open at the last possible second, for Oy to kick ass and take names on ol' slobberin' Cujo, saving the day for Donna and Tad. Ayuhhh......Would'a been wikkid TRIG, and'a TOLD us billybumblers ain't scared of rabies, no matter WHAT Roland thinks. Follow me, chummy?Kidding aside, this book doesn't jibe with the rest of what we've been told. If this is death, then Jake Chambers and Eddie Dean are also walking that shambling, hopeless walk. So how did the one get to bust a cap on Ticky, and the other to go home to White Plains, with Roll-a-round Susie? If it's NOT, then Jamie and the Rev are a couple of credulous schmucks who deserve a good razzing. 'Does not COMPUTE, Stephen Robinson! Remember, ALL THINGS SERVE THE BEAM. This doesn't.

Revisado: 11-08-14
What did you love best about The Hunt for Atlantis?
At the end, I felt as beat to hell as Chase, himself!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Chase, of course. He's kind of a watered down, feminized version of Yours, Truly. I really feel for the guy. ;-D
Which scene was your favorite?
The one includng the word, "bedroom".
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
See above!
Any additional comments?
Pretty much defines the term, "RIPPING YARN!" I felt twelve years old, reading H. Ryder Haggard for the very first time.

Worth what I paid.
Revisado: 07-28-13
What would have made METAtropolis better?
A little contact with reality and at least a grammar school grasp of basic science and human nature. Remember the movie adaption of 'Delta of Venus'? Some feeb orders Anais Nin to write some erotica geared to his own, particular taste. If the guy had been Al Gore, the result would have been something like this.
What could the authors have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Uh........jumped off the DOCK?
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
He did his job.
