Historia
After Tripoli declared war on the United States in 1801, Barbary pirates captured 300 U.S. sailors and marines. President Jefferson sent navy squadrons to the Mediterranean, but he also authorized a secret mission to overthrow the government of Tripoli. He chose an unlikely diplomat, William Eaton, to lead the mission, but before Eaton departed, Jefferson grew wary of the affair and withdrew his support.

The fighting prowess of United States Marines is second to none, but few know of the Corps' humble beginnings and what it achieved during the early years of the American Revolution. That oversight is fully rectified by Jason Bohm's eye-opening Washington's Marines: The Origins of the Corps and the American Revolution, 1775-1777.

I have listened to this narrator before and he always tells a good story. The subject line if this book is also very well thought out and the author has put a lot of work into his research.

Historia
The heroic story of the founding of the US Navy during the Revolution has been told many times, yet largely missing from maritime histories of America's first war is the ragtag fleet of private vessels that truly revealed the new nation's character. In Rebels at Sea, Eric Jay Dolin corrects that significant omission, and contends that privateers, as they were called, were in fact critical to the American victory. Privateers were privately owned vessels that were granted permission by the new government to seize British merchantmen and men of war.

Historia
Before the ink was dry on the U.S. Constitution, the establishment of a permanent military had become the most divisive issue facing the new government. Would a standing army be the thin end of dictatorship? Would a navy protect American commerce against the Mediterranean pirates, or drain the treasury and provoke hostilities with the great powers? The founders, particularly Jefferson, Madison, and Adams, debated these questions fiercely and switched sides more than once.

Historia
Here, in his own words, is the true story of America's wildest flying hero, of his extraordinary heroism, and of his greatest battle of all-the fight to survive. The World War II air war in the Pacific needed tough men like Colonel Pappy Boyington and his Black Sheep Squadron. The legendary Marine Corps officer and his bunch of misfits, outcasts, and daredevils gave a new definition to "hell-raising" - on the ground and in the skies.

Great Book Even Better Narrator
Revisado: 12-12-23
The narrator does an amazing job in bringing personality to each of the characters in this book. His pronunciation of overwhelmingly difficult names to pronounce is second to none. He also uses foreign dialect perfectly. The book is well written but the narrator seems to bring it to life in a way that any other narrator could not do. I am going to listen to a lot more books using Eric Martin.

Outstanding Book Read by an Outstanding Narrorator
Revisado: 12-12-23
Grover Gardner could read a roses are red poem and make it the best poem you’ve ever heard. Pair that with a well written book and you have pure ecstasy in the form of an audio book. This is not a G-Rated book, parents are strongly encouraged to review before letting any younger kids (<18) subscribe to this book. In fact I would not let any of my own kids read this until they have moved out and graduated high school. There are many adult themes including violence and some minor parts involving sexual situations. I’ve personally experienced combat and can attest to the heightened nature described in this book. It’s nothing to be proud of but I’ve never read about it nor heard of it until now. Reader discretion strongly advised.

Less than fifty thousand years ago mankind had no art, no religion, no sophisticated symbolism, no innovative thinking. Then, in a dramatic and electrifying change, described by scientists as "the greatest riddle in human history," all the skills and qualities that we value most highly in ourselves appeared already fully formed, as though bestowed on us by hidden powers.

Historia
In 1943, as the war against Nazi Germany raged abroad, President Franklin Roosevelt had a critical goal: a face-to-face sit-down with his allies Joseph Stalin and Winston Churchill. This first-ever meeting of the Big Three in Tehran, Iran, would decide some of the most crucial strategic details of the war. Yet when the Nazis found out about the meeting, their own secret plan took shape—an assassination plot that would’ve changed history.
