This classic chiller, when adapted for radio in 1938 by Orson Welles, was realistic enough to cause widespread panic throughout the United States.

Pretty solid book, interesting story
Revisado: 07-05-22
The narrator did the book justice, nice voice.
It's not as relatable as the later retellings because of the author's time relative to our own, but the core components are there in newer versions all the way down to the dead transportation.
I wouldn't say it's a must-read, it didn't drag me in like some of its contemporaries, but it's worth the time. I do appreciate that the author showed the main character's ptsd while wrapping up the story, those details make it feel more realistic

Excellent overall
Revisado: 08-07-21
The first 2-2.5 hours were hard to get through for me; I don't know if it was the performance, the text, or my ADHD, but there's some high quality foreshadowing and it's a fun ride once things get going. It's King, if you like his other books you'll probably like this one.
Trigger warning for child abuse, sexual assault, and battlefield trauma. Still recommend it if it's a bit trigger-y for you, just be mindful and grounded during the relevant experiences.

Psychologist recommended for a reason
Revisado: 05-06-21
I was referred to this author by a psych that diagnosed me with ADHD inattentive type.
I hyperventilated trying not to cry when the author introduced me to someone with symptoms very close to my own, I've felt so alone and the community I felt was overwhelming. The author's compassion and practicality has given me a lot of hope and he explains things very well. His list of 100 things had me nodding along as I identified with item after item, spacing out for a moment, relating, spacing out, and relating again and I laughed as the final item in the list was read off... trouble concentrating on the list. I've never felt so compassionately understood.
10/10, wonderful book.

Better than the movie
Revisado: 02-25-21
Easy listen, less gore with more description of behavior and reaction, wraps up nicely, more to the point philosophy from Malcolm that I really loved. Would recommend.

Historia
In the winter of 1918, at the height of World War I, history's most lethal influenza virus erupted in an army camp in Kansas, moved east with American troops, then exploded, killing as many as 100 million people worldwide. It killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS has killed in 24 years, more in a year than the Black Death killed in a century. But this was not the Middle Ages, and 1918 marked the first collision between modern science and epidemic disease.

Good read, great actor
Revisado: 08-10-20
The book is very informational and manages to stay interesting. It's organization seemed a little weird to me, jumping around in time from, I assume, a 1950s birthday party to 1910s to 1800s to the turn of the century and back more frequently than I thought necessary. Besides the disjointed timeline, it was a great book and I'll listen to this again.
The voice actor was very easy to listen to. Even, steady, interesting. They really make or break the audiobooks almost as much as the author and he did a good job.
