Jonathan Haidt has spent his career speaking wisdom and truth in some of the most the most difficult spaces - communities polarized by politics and religion, campuses battling culture wars, and now the perfect storm contributing to a public health emergency for teenagers today. In The Anxious Generation, Haidt argues that for the cohort that hit puberty around 2009, their sense of self developed as the threads of three dramatic technological and social changes emerged.

Historia
Sarah understands only too well how big a part teachers and schools play in helping children get the best and right start in life. She spent 11 years in the English education system, yet nobody identified her moderate-to-severe ADHD, severe dyspraxia, dyscalculia, or sensory processing disorder, meaning she failed her 12+ "spectacularly" and spent four wasted years at a secondary school she shouldn’t have been at.

Necessary read for teachers, parents, families with ADHD kids
Revisado: 01-08-25
This is a really quick easily digestible story that explains more details about some children’s experiences at school with adhd. This outlines the do’s, don’ts and actually helps make sense of stuff we experience in schools / families everyday. It encourages a different approach rooted in empathy and understanding. Good read. This would be so much better without profane language
Revisado: 11-03-24
Here we are talking about positivity and neutrality and limiting outside influence in our homes in the text and every 3 rd word is f bomb a bomb and worse.
This is hard to listen to in public spaces such as my home whilst cooking or my car with the kids inside it. The point of the book, the story - really good. But the contradiction and hypocrisy is ridiculously obvious. Why is the reader swearing so much and ruining the whole point of the story. Since when has obscenity been viewed as positivity.
I wish he didn’t do this !

Historia
Nel and Sula's devotion is fierce enough to withstand bullies and the burden of a dreadful secret. It endures even after Nel has grown up to be a pillar of the black community and Sula has become a pariah. But their friendship ends in an unforgivable betrayal—or does it end? Terrifying, comic, ribald and tragic, Sula is a work that overflows with life.

...always a treat to hear the author read their own stories and Tony Morrison, none better. This story is a little strange but still interesting and in many ways comes across as ahead of its time.

From one of Britain's most celebrated writers of color, Girl, Woman, Other is a magnificent portrayal of the intersections of identity and a moving and hopeful story of an interconnected group of black British women. Winner of the 2019 Booker Prize and short-listed for the Gordon Burn Prize, Girl, Woman, Other paints a vivid portrait of the state of post-Brexit Britain, as well as looking back to the legacy of Britain's colonial history in Africa and the Caribbean.

Really enjoyed this story and the narration, would recommend. I love the variance in all the stories and the close connection to home, referencing SE london, Grey coat hospital and more.
Great writing.
The book shared stories about several topics, undiscussed, as such creates much food for thought.

Excellent book for those who suffer and those who don’t suffer and don’t understand migraine
Revisado: 12-31-21
This was an excellent book I wish there were more like it. It inspired me to write more about the condition, but mostly it provided me with COMFORT. Maria uses her research and language to accurately describe some of the challenges she faces as a migraineur and this was so familiar to me at times it was scary. I found myself in tears driving because I recognised some of the things she said, the minimising of pain, saying others have worse, giving up and not expecting anything to change and not even bothering to stay up to date on medical research in this arena.
Shocking ability to relate to the entire book as if I had written it myself and very similar episodes to Maria. Thanks Maria. This is excellent work and will help expose this problem many people face.

A somber, sometimes humorous matter of fact
Revisado: 09-22-21
Trust Jordan B to break down these 12 facts of living and approaches to life in a way that is typical of his lectures. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it plus will re-listen. Jordan is philosophical and always pairs views with archetypical examples from shared common knowledge or culture, the subject matter is heavy but this helps to lighten or clarify it.
Read by the author in a tone and delivery that brings light and humour to some very heavy subject matter at times.
Thanks, Jordan I look forward to a book written about modern times // the pandemic I hope we get one of those from you soon even a revision mapping what we experience now into these 12 principles for existence.

Historia
Afua Hirsch is British. Her parents are British. She was raised, educated and socialised in Britain. Her partner, her daughter, her sister and the vast majority of her friends are British. So why is her identity and sense of belonging a subject of debate? The reason is simply because of the colour of her skin. Blending history, memoir and individual experiences, Afua Hirsch reveals the identity crisis at the heart of Britain today. Far from affecting only minority people, Britain is a nation in denial about its past and its present.

Being an introvert in a world that glorifies cool isn't easy. Jung’s idea of the archetype ....
Revisado: 06-02-20
Described in a way that is easy to relate to and to engage with. I appreciate the delivery and the subject matter. This is a recommended book for anyone who is in the pursuit of understanding more about the hand we are born with interms of personality traits and characteristics of our soul. A little contradictory at times and lots of celebration about America a great nation - completely ignoring the other facts we know about how America came to be what we see today. That being said I did enjoy the book - i don’t think the shift we are witnessing is as a result of conflict between the Gods, but Caroline does describe and explore the typical archetypes well and suitable to the layman.
I like her notion of soul contracts - I believe there is some truth in that.
