I am tempted to believe that an AI wrote this, but an AI would have a larger vocabulary. Maybe an alien.

Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

This is such an original story. I have never read anything quite like it. I love Princess Donut. The voice acting is exceptional. They really could not have done any better with the audio. I think it would be a shame to read the book instead of listening to it.

Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Nonsensical plot
Revisado: 07-01-24
The plot of this story makes no scientific sense. If the issue isn’t just the volcano, why don’t they get at least one expert in the other discipline to problem solve? Why try to stop an entire volcano instead of solving your real problem? Why is everyone such a ridiculous “alpha male” who can’t collaborate at all? Why did they introduce so many characters just to kill them off unceremoniously?
The whole thing feels like a sloppy first draft that desperately needed a good editor. I love a good Michael Crichton book, but this isn’t one. Lazy, stupid, and fairly sexist.

Historia
Esther, a painter living in Jamaica and recovering from the death of her husband, comes across a man on a mountain road with no memory of his past. As a hurricane rushes towards the island, she shelters the handsome stranger, names him “Monty”, and tries to uncover the mystery of his missing memory. She soon finds herself falling in love with a man she barely knows, and who doesn’t even know himself. The Mountain and the Sea is a romantic tale about letting go of the past and embracing the present.

Isn’t this kidnapping?
Revisado: 09-24-23
The story is fine for a story, but it is really hard to like the main character when she has basically kidnapped a man she finds attractive and encourages him to not remember who he is. How irresponsible is it to not take him to a hospital?! He could have a traumatic brain injury and die because she wants to keep him like a pet? The whole thing was weird. Narration was good though.

Historia
The climate of the Earth has changed throughout history. Most of these climate changes are attributed to very small variations in Earth's orbit that changes the amount of solar energy. The trend toward current warming is particularly important because the bulk of this phenomenon (more than 95 percent probability) has undoubtedly been the result of human activity since the mid-20th century and is at an unprecedented rate over decades to thousands of years.

Couldn’t finish
Revisado: 05-29-23
I don’t know if this book was translated to English from a different language (which would be confusing since it is so US-centric), but the writing is atrocious to the point of being confusing and occasionally nonsensical. Phrases like, “(the fire) was intensified by windy winds” and “the second type of sinkhole is a sinkhole” permeate the writing.
The first portion of the book is a long recitation of facts and figures. That might be useful as reference for writing a school paper, but was miserable for an audiobook.
The narrator sounds like a remedial high school English student who is trying really hard to show off his reading skills but keeps mispronouncing things.
I rarely give up on a book, but I couldn’t finish this one. It made me feel like I was getting dumber.

Historia
The ice is coming. It was the last thing we expected, but the world is freezing. A new ice age has dawned. Billions have fled the glaciers. A cataclysmic war is coming. In orbit, a group of scientists are running the Winter Experiments, a last-ditch attempt to understand why the planet is cooling. None of the climate models they build make sense. But then they discover an anomaly, an unexplained variation in solar radiation...and something else. Close to the burning edge of the sun, they catch a fleeting glimpse of something that shouldn’t be there....

Written by a 12 yr old boy?
Revisado: 05-13-23
This book had a really fun concept but was horribly executed. The female lead is supposed to be a successful scientist and astronaut who has never had a serious relationship because she is so focused on her work. So naturally she meets a guy and becomes a raging imbecile who blindly follows him around and does what he says. She says irritating things like “I would do ANYTHING for James!” And “I know when to give in to his demands.”
The science is frustratingly bad. If you’re going to write a book that heavily involves astrophysics, please take Physics 101. Most of the glaring errors that make this storyline completely impossible are taught in the first month of a physics class. For instance, there is no atmosphere in space, so no sunlight bounces around from other parts of space. Therefore, the light from the sun is the light that leaves the sun pointing directly at us. You cannot block the light without there being an obvious visible dark spot in the sun. If so much light was blocked that the earth was drastically cooling, it would be SUPER obvious that there was something in front of the sun. Why did it take them so long to figure it out?
Also, space is huge, and they just blindly fly off and happen to run into everything they want to. That is beyond improbable.
Finally, the climate science doesn’t make sense, and doesn’t account for any type of weather patterns, particularly if it suddenly froze or melted.
Difficult to finish. It felt like the day dream of a 12 year old boy with a hero complex.

It’s okay
Revisado: 04-26-23
Not much happens in this road trip story, it needed more action and non-romantic drama. There are a few laughs but I was honestly more interested in the old ladies than the main characters. The personalities and voices slightly change throughout the story which was confusing.

Historia
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

What is with the accents?
Revisado: 04-21-23
This is a very long book, and with very long books, certain things start to grate on you. Why does everyone in this town have a completely different accent? That might make sense in LA but in a small town where everyone has known each other for 50 years? No.
The concept is very interesting and lends itself to a good examination of human nature. The physics makes no sense and leads to a lot of plot holes. Why do the phones and internet still work? A giant electrically charged force field that can withstand a missile strike would cause a lot more problems than as a windbreak.
Why does every person in this town have a generator and weeks worth of gas?
The villain is fun to hate, but you don’t get to see him die! You get to see lots of innocent children die, but not him.
If you’re going for alien-induced drama, the Tommyknockers is better. This is a good book for keeping your attention for 30 hours, but it’s not altogether satisfying.
