Historia
Some of the most significant moments in American history have occurred over meals, as U.S. presidents broke bread with friends or foe: Thomas Jefferson’s nation-building receptions in the new capital, Washington, D.C.; Ulysses S. Grant’s state dinner for the king of Hawaii; Teddy Roosevelt’s supper with Booker T. Washington. Here Alex Prud’homme invites listeners into the White House kitchen to reveal the sometimes curious tastes of 26 of America’s most influential presidents, how their meals were prepared and by whom, and the ways their choices affected food policy around the world.

Historia
After a tumultuous period in American politics, a new administration has just been sworn in, and to everyone’s surprise the president chooses a political enemy for the vital position of secretary of state. There is no love lost between the president of the United States and Ellen Adams, his new secretary of state. But it’s a canny move on the part of the president. With this appointment, he silences one of his harshest critics, since taking the job means Adams must step down as head of her multinational media conglomerate

Ridiculous
Revisado: 01-27-22
This was a first grade version of a Tom Clancy novel. The Secretary of State is Superwoman outsmarting male heads of State around the globe who all underestimate her because she's a woman. It's laughable. Louise Penny may be a great writer and Hilary Rodham Clinton may be a great diplomat, but together they didn't produce anything great. Stick to reading what they write by themselves.

Robotic Reading Hurts Story
Revisado: 12-10-20
Fascinating history is diminished by narrator that sounds like a computer. She makes the most interesting scenes sound boring. I suggest getting the book rather than listening.

Historia
New York, 1888. Gas lamps still flicker in the city streets, but the miracle of electric light is in its infancy. The person who controls the means to turn night into day will make history - and a vast fortune. A young untested lawyer named Paul Cravath, fresh out of Columbia Law School, takes a case that seems impossible to win. Paul's client, George Westinghouse, has been sued by Thomas Edison over a billion-dollar question: Who invented the lightbulb and holds the right to power the country?

In the summer of 1944, a handpicked group of young GIs - including such future luminaries as Bill Blass, Ellsworth Kelly, Arthur Singer, Victor Dowd, Art Kane, and Jack Masey - landed in France to conduct a secret mission. Ghost Army Materializes
Revisado: 10-25-18
An alternate title could be The American Art of Deception in World War II. It's not about killing, but cunning. It's not about lives lost, but lives saved. Learn about the heroes behind the scenes - literally. Some names you already know, but not for their top secret work of the war. Don't miss the story that was kept under wraps for decades. You won't be disappointed.

who cares?
Revisado: 04-13-18
There's no question that the author is a talented writer. Her characters are clearly developed. The trouble is you don't care about any of them or the entire story. It goes on and on and on and on and you don't get anything at the end except the point of the whole book. It's basically a dull soap opera that leaves you flat. It does prompt personal stories at the book club meeting....stories which are much more interesting than the book!
