Loved this audiobook!

This was my second time to listen to this book. The first time was before my brother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. The second time was after he passed away, four months after his diagnosis. The second time brought a whole new level of meaning to it but both times through it were life-altering.

First time to read a Baldacci novel

The story was compelling and pretty easy to follow. The characters were interesting and the plot was really strong. My only complaint is very minor. I didn’t really like the sound effects and switching between two narrators was a bit distracting. Neither was enough to make me out down the book, though, and I’m def reading the next in the series!

The narration ruined it for me

I almost couldn’t finish this book. After going back and re-listening to the first three, I was disappointed that this one was from Eden & Daniel’s perspective. But I could have handled that and still liked the book. My issue was with the narrator for Eden. I was so confused at first - his was clearly not the voice of a blonde curly haired brother of Day. No way. And though I tried to overlook it, it was so jarring that each time Eden started speaking, I was thrown out of the story. I had to stop after a while and then only finished it because I had to hear Daniel and June’s ending. As for Eden…why why why??? I just don’t understand the decision. I would rather have had just the one narrator playing both parts. It would have been FAR better.

Amazing

I admit - I didn’t know much about Will Smith, but thought it would be interesting to hear about him from his own perspective. But this wasn’t just a book about a person. This was a life changing read for me. I can’t stop talking about it. My husband is probably sick of hearing me say, “…and in the book, he says…”. I just identified with so much with his insecurities and fears. I actually took notes on the parts that hit me hard. Thank you for sharing your story with us. Also, the narration and extra singing and music just took this audio book to the next level. I loved everything about it.

Went in hesitant; finished it in 2 days

After reading such strong opinions about the narrator, I wasn’t sure I wanted to ‘read’ this one. But I had already read the short work years ago and just decided to give it a try (with my finger ready to stop and return the book if the narrator was bad. I’ve listened to enough bad narrators to know it’s better to quit and read it on my kindle than to suffer through.)

Rather than the grating “wrong” voice so many others experienced, this narrator was almost identical to the Edward I created in my mind when I first read the work so many years ago. I found him compelling and best of all, I truly felt he interpreted the character in a way that was more true to the Edward I met in the Twilight books than the one from the screen. That Edward was rougher - harsher - in my opinion than the screen version of him. But regardless, I truly enjoyed this audio book and know it will now become a part of the few that I listen to more than once.

One of only a few books I listen to over and over

I love the story. I love the narrator. I listen to this book when I want a modern classic. This will be our generation’s love story.

Ugh.

Be forewarned: despite the cover art, title, and YA listing, this book is NOT for young adults. It's been classified inappropriately, and as a mother, this makes me furious. If you want to read books with explicit sex scenes, more power to you. But please don't try to hide what's in them so that unsuspecting children and adults stumble into a book that they find offensive.
