Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

An fantastic listen! Thanks Mr King.& Mr. Numseth!
Revisado: 12-10-22
This Audible book made me cry, laugh, feel fear, anticipation, and awe. Also, the closer I got to the ending, I became sad. I didn't want another favorite story, by a favored author, to come to an end. If I had an imagination has incredible as Mr. King, I could pretend this was also a "Never Ending Story."
The performance was done incredibly well. I was very impressed. I feel like the narrator of a story is as important as the story itself, at least in the case of audiobooks. I'm very picky about narrators, especially after spending the last 3 to 4 years primarily listening to Jim Dale, Michael Kramer, and Kate Reading. I will definitely be adding Seth Numrich to my favored narrators list.
One of the hardest choices for me when choosing a new audiobook, after spending so much time with the above mentioned narrators, is finding a book that would intrigue me, and who's narrator is of the same caliber.
I share the following, to explain why I'm so impressed with Seth Numseth.
TLDR: Seth Numrich rocked it, and his narration was icing on the cake of another fantastic book written by one of my favorite authors. Another Favorite for the Favorites List!
After a divorce a few years back, I wanted to listen to something light, so I deviated from genres similar to those written by Mr King. (Please keep in mind, Mr. King has always been one of my favorite authors.) I just needed something light, that gave me a safe & warm connection with the characters.
Even though, by this time, I was in my early 40s, I chose to start with The Harry Potter series, narrated by Jim Dale. I listened all the way through twice. He did a phenomenal job! I can't say enough about how well he did.
Then comes the choice all readers have to deal with. "Where do I go next?" Personally, it's not just a choice of what book looks intriguing, but will I also enjoy the narrator. For me, if I don't mesh with the narrator, the book doesn't create the enjoyment that it could. That it should!
So, after listening to Harry Potter through twice I was at this place. This question. Where to go next?
I had just finished the first series of The Wheel of Time on Amazon Prime, which is based on a series written by Robert Jordan.
Earlier in my life, I had a really hard time getting through the prologue of the first book, The Eye of the World, in spite of it's many fantastic reviews. I have come to find out, I just didn't give it a chance.
Fortunately though, the work that Amazon Prime did with the series absolutely captivated me. I really enjoyed the storyline, world building, & characters, so much so, that I started The Eye of the World audio book with a new outlook. And, I'm incredibly grateful I did!
I enjoyed The Wheel of Time audio books so much, I listened all the way though twice. This established quite a relationship for me with the narration of Kate Reading and Michael Kramer.
The last book's of the series we're completed by Brandon Sanderson, due to Mr. Jordans unfortunate death. However, I enjoyed, respected, and admired Brandon Sanderson's job at completing anothers fantastic story so much, I started looking into his writing as well. I was incredibly happy and surprised to see that they were also primarily narrated by the same familiar narrator, Michael kramer.
I listened to The Stormlight Archives, followed by the Mistborn Series "Era 1" and "Era 2". These were all narrated by Michael Kramer.
As I was waiting for the last book of "Era 2" to be released, I listen to The Stormlight Archives & The Mistborn "Era 2" existing books for a second time. Right on time for that release too!
Somewhere throughout my Brandon Sanderson expedition, I knew I had to listen to his first book, Elantris. I did this out of pure loyalty to Brandon Sanderson, because I didn't enjoy the narrator. It was a great book, but I didn't enjoy it like I felt I could have, if it had been narrated by another.
Which I guess brings me to the TLDR point: Personally, even though I enjoyed the book, I didn't listen to it a second time, as I have with multiple other books, as shown in this LONG dialogue, specifically because of the narrator.
I feel like this is why I need to point out how grateful I was to find that the narrator of Fairy Tale give me a fantastic gift: Pure enjoyment of an amazing story by a favorite author. Thank you for that
I'm always so very intrigued when I find one of my favorite authors going off target with their writing... and writes something so unique and different from their usual works, and does it so incredibly well, that it adds even more enjoyment to the story... and yes, admiration too. It's easy to put on the same clothes everyday. But, stepping outside our typical element, and doing it well in addition, well, it's such an incredible gift & skill.
I feel like it's especially enjoyable when it's Stephen King who does this. When he deviates, I'm always very curious and excited to see what he's laid out for us. He blows me away with his creativity imagination and story weaving. During my time away from the darker writing styles, I had forgotten how incredible Mr. King is and now too, I'm also so pleased I found a new narrator that I know I will be comfortable with in the future. The two of them together, has put Fairy Tale on My Favorite Books list!
Thank you Mr. King & Mr. Numrich!

As always, Brandon Sanderson does a stunning job!
Revisado: 12-04-22
Brandon Sanderson captivates, creates, and captures us with his phenomenal world building and character development. He is brilliant.
I actually started reading Brandon Sanderson novels after finishing The Wheel of Time series. I love the narrators of The Wheel of Time, and loved the way in which Brandon Sanderson finished the series. I just can't imagine the time investment and imagination it took finish that series, and do it so well.
Micheal Kramer is also one of two of my absolute favorite narrators. Ironically he's also married, to my second favorite narrator Kate Reading. I'll give most any book they narrate, a chance. Even if it's not my general genre preference.
So basically, I don't think you would be disappointed with anything he's written, especially with those two narrating.

this hear been a heavier if mine for years. i read it the first time, and just finished listening to the auto book a second time since the book was originally published. It's so we'll written and captures your interest relentlessly. The character development is phenomenal. the weaving of mystery and action excellently. I feel my review doesn't do it justice. I wish they would make a movie of it, however, as movies go, i don't think one could do the story justice.

I love post apocalyptic books, and enjoyed this one because it was unique, in that it was a story of how people would survive... normal people in reality. No monsters, zombies, crazy side stories... I also enjoyed the communal aspects of the characters survival.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

A very enjoyable, humorous, & easy read. Loved it!
Revisado: 08-31-16
Where does The Martian rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I would say 8.... But my memory is pretty terrible. However, I finished it, and couldn't wait to start it again every time I had a free moment. I have dozens of audio book I haven't started or finished and over a 1000 paperbacks, hardback, and kindeles in the same category of either unread or un finished condition
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Martian?
The survivors sense of humor in the face of diversity... I really enjoyed it.
Which scene was your favorite?
When he was discussing fertilizing his potatoes.... And when he was conversing with scientists on earth.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
In fact the movie was made. It made me read the book...and then watch the movie again! Tag line? It's a political year so, "Farmer colonizes Mars, up yours Neil Armstrong!"
Any additional comments?
Worth your time if you enjoy humor, realistic science fiction, and then finding out that the writer... Well he is an awesome geek.
