As good as good can be.
Revisado: 07-13-17
What did you love best about The Duke's Children?
The relationships between so many of the characters. Everybody is interesting, all the intertwining personalities and their effect upon each other. As in all Trollope.
What did you like best about this story?
The tension Trollope is able to whip up between people. The fact that you know what is going to happen but that's never the point with him. It is why one can listen to any Trollope novel multiple times. Especially if it's read by Timothy West.
What about Timothy West’s performance did you like?
Timothy West is absolutely incredible. The humanity he endows each character with is amazing. One comes to believe it is Trollope himself reading the book. Or one hopes this is how Trollope himself would have sounded.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, secretly I actually cried. Trollope is as hard as nails about money but when it comes to romance .............

Historia
Each night, when the hours of painting and drawing were over, Vincent van Gogh put pen to paper and poured out his heart through letters to his beloved brother Theo, his confidant and companion. No thought was too small, no element of his craft too insignificant, no happening too trivial. It was all scrupulously recorded and shared. In these letters, Van Gogh reveals himself as artist and man. Even more than if he had purposely intended to tell his life story, Van Gogh’s letters lay bare his deepest feelings, as well as his everyday concerns and his views of the world of art.

Vincent Van Gogh could have been a great writer.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in art and artists. It completely contradicts the popular Hollywood version of Van Gogh.
What did you like best about this story?
His amazing skills as a writer. When he describes a scene it's a vivid as his art.
What does Clive Chafer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
As these are letters written by Van Gogh the performance isn't really important.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Not applicable.

Historia
In the last and most complex of the Barsetshire novels, many of Trollope's best-loved characters appear, but the mood of the novel is darker and more uneasy than in earlier volumes. At the heart of the novel is the penniless Reverend Josiah Crawley, first encountered in Framley Parsonage, who in the opening of the book is accused of theft, creating a public scandal that threatens to tear the community apart.

Addictive
Revisado: 07-13-17
Would you listen to The Last Chronicle of Barset again? Why?
I have listened to The Last Chronicle five times. I love being in the company of these characters. Their world, their time.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Last Chronicle of Barset?
The meeting of Grace and the Archbishop
What does Timothy West bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Timothy West is outstanding. There is no comparison between reading the book and listening to his stellar performance. Each character is vividly alive. No movie could replicate the effectiveness of his performance, I wish he would read Orley Farm. The difference between the Spoken Word Orley Farm that is available and the TW performances is frustrating.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I would not make a film of this book. There are no actors capable of portraying the characters as they are presented by this recording.
