Historia
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this book when I first started it because it seemed to jump around so much it was hard for me to keep everybody straight. It did get better as it went on. One of the things I liked about this book is that there wasn’t just one main character there were several of them. The one thing I didn’t like about this book as it seemed like there’s a lot of backstabbing, but some of the BackStabbers got what they deserved at the end of the book. I will be reading the next book in the series.

Eveen the Eviscerator is skilled, discreet, professional, and here for your most pressing needs in the ancient city of Tal Abisi. Her guild is strong, her blades are sharp, and her rules are simple. Those sworn to the Matron of Assassins—resurrected, deadly, wiped of their memories—have only three unbreakable vows. First, the contract must be just. That’s above Eveen’s pay grade. Second, even the most powerful assassin may only kill the contracted. The third and the simplest: once you accept a job, you must carry it out.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this book when I first started reading it, but it did get better. I did like the FMC even though she was an assassin. I did find it interesting that she is not really sure how she became an assassin after her death, and all of her memories of her previous life are gone. The FMC has been contracted to kill a girl that looks exactly like her. I love the mystery of this girl and where she came from. I also liked how the FMC handled this contract.

This book definitely had a lot of action. I also like the fact that this book started where the last one left off. Bell needed a vacation so she went with her beast to a private island resort for a fundraiser. Even though Bell was supposed to be on vacation police work seems to follow her everywhere she goes. She found some nasty stuff on the island, then she comes home to some murders, then she realizes that those murders and the stuff that’s going on on the island Were connected. I did like the mystery of finding out how they were connected. I also think sometimes that her beast is a little bit too obsessed with her. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

I thought this was an interesting twist on Peter Pan in the lost boys. Wendy’s brothers were kidnapped, and she called in the beast to help her find them and of course he brought Bell with him. I had an idea of who was behind the kidnapping of the boys, but I did like the mystery of it. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

I like Isabel, but it is hard for me to understand how she can go from loathing the person who scarred her to wanting to jump in his bed. The murders that are happening again in this town, I feel that they are following the story of the three bears. The difference is that there’s only one Bear in this story, who happens to be a Shapeshifter, a couple of homicides, and some odd clothes and furniture. I feel bad for Bell cause she seems to be running herself ragged trying to figure out this case.

This book was an interesting twist on the beauty and the beast fairytale. In this version Bell is a detective that has almost been killed in the line of duty. Because of the PTSD from that attack, she ends up moving to a small town and ends up thrown into the middle of a murder spree. Belle finds out who her attacker was, is almost killed herself looking for the murderer, and is saved by an unlikely person.

I like that this book took place in the same world as the moon goddess book. I’m glad I read that one first because it helped me understand the golden desert and the immortals. I really liked the FMC and the MMFC. The only thing I did not like about this book is it seemed like it was longer than it needed to be and sometimes when I thought the book was done, it would start another chapter.

Historia
It started the night journalist Briar Thorne’s mother died in their rambling old mansion on Chicago’s South Side. The nightmares of a woman in white pleading to come home, music switched on in locked rooms, and the panicked fear of being swallowed by the dark…Bri has almost convinced herself that these stirrings of dread are simply manifestations of grief and not the beyond-world of ghostly impossibilities her mother believed in. And more tangible terrors still lurk outside the decaying Victorian greystone.

I thought the author took the story of sleeping beauty and twisted it into something dark. I did like the narrators, especially when they used one for briar and one for the killer. It wasn’t quite as dark when briar was speaking, but it got pretty twisted when the killer was supposed to be the one speaking. Especially when he talked about how his father killed his victims and also other serial killers throughout history. I also thought this book was long and drawn out more than it really needed to be. I definitely did not want to read this book before bed because I knew it would give me nightmares.

When I first started reading this book, I was a little bit confused because it went from one character to another to another. Then I realized that all these women were connected and every time I changed to another character it was telling a little bit more about how the curse started. The ending was a little bit surprising though I was not expecting that. I did feel bad for Lori and Alyssa for having to move around so much because of the curse that was put on them by somebody else because they thought they knew best. Sometimes I thought the narrator got a little bit too emotional.

I probably would’ve given this book a five star rating if it wasn’t so long. It was definitely like reading three books in one especially since there were three parts to it. I liked Xingyin and her story. Not only did she become the prince’s companion, but she also decided she wanted to serve in the army, but only by her terms. Then, of course, she fell in love with another person, even though her heart belonged to the prince. There were some points in the story that I was kind of annoyed because it was almost like she was blaming herself for the stupidity of the men in her life.
