Historia
Caroline’s mattress had nothing to do with her untimely death at the age of 28—this, she wants Tempur-Pedic’s market research representative to know. But as she reflects on her first ever mattress purchase and their interview progresses, Caroline dives into the circumstances and decisions that led her and Nicholas—her boyfriend, 10 years her senior and prone to sleeping on the floor—to that particular bed in that particular shopping plaza.

This was fun and interesting

I loved the unusual perspective, the "survey" hook used to advance the story. It was unique and clever.

Short drive entertainment
Revisado: 05-03-24
Narration was stilted. She obviously stopped at the end of the line of text. Lost fluidity. Some bits in the plot were far fetched. She simply threw her hip into this large man and he fell off the cliff? The main character's drinking problem was superficially treated, as well. It's all a campfire story- not to be evaluated. Just something to fill the time.

I used these as background entertainment while I was sorting an estate. The stories were companionable albeit a bit wordy with extraneous details that don’t advance the stories or really add much to them. They are safe for mixed company.

Not my cup of tea…
Revisado: 11-13-23
The stories were entertaining, though far fetched. It’s light fiction, so, I get it. It felt authentic, generally, as far as the relationships. Neal was my favorite character. The narrator mispronounced words and the use of multiple adjectives and descriptions of banal things, feelings, and situations were too many, long, and frequently superfluous and didn’t advance the story; just made it longer. ????

Got a kick out of some of the negative reviews!
Revisado: 10-13-23
This book is far more Lessons from the Sea than James Bond. Saying “nothing happened “ or “it dragged”…I think… has more to do with the perspective of the reader than the quality of the book. That the grandmother was so difficult and critical in real conversations and so loving and wise in her letters to her granddaughter (in the form of a journal which she left out purposefully) gives the reader a glimpse into complex characters and the idea that, while the past doesn’t have to equal the future, our experiences do leave an imprint on generations. This was more than fiction and very good if you are of a mind to enjoy more than forgettable fluff. That isn’t to say I don’t thoroughly enjoy fluffy reads; this is just not that book. Tending Roses includes the bonus of life lessons taught by people I recognize from my own life and had me asking myself some useful questions.

Best thing I’ve read in quite a while.
Revisado: 10-09-23
I very much appreciate the research which was obviously done to keep this book authentic. There are well fleshed out characters and an interesting storyline. It was engaging to read the author’s take on the influence of the nouveau riche Americans on the lives of the declining aristocracy of Great Britain. I find the loyalty of those “in service” intriguing. A very fine read with genuine glimpses of the individual perspectives of each of the characters. If this author’s books are of consistent quality, I’ll keep reading her work.

Historia
Fashion is a fickle industry, a frightening fact for 24-year-old model Ivy Clark. Ten years in and she’s learned a sacred truth - appearance is everything. Nobody cares about her broken past as long as she looks beautiful for the camera. This is the only life Ivy knows - so when it starts to unravel, she’ll do anything to hold on. Even if that means moving to the quaint island town of Greenbrier, South Carolina, to be the new face of her stepmother’s bridal wear line - an irony too rich for words, since Ivy is far from the pure bride in white.

All kinds of redemption!
Revisado: 09-18-23
I’ve grown weary of reading modern fiction, recently. Too much of it feels like worldly propaganda and every author looks to be pushing his or her agenda! Too many protagonists are evil AND successful and it makes me curious about the message in fiction as well as other media.
This book about redemption was redeeming for me. What a relief to read a well thought out piece of hopeful entertaining fiction. This is my first read authored by Katie Ganshert, but it won’t be my last.

Engrossing book
Revisado: 01-26-23
A story from the viewpoints of three very differently gifted women occurring a generation after the Civil War. It’s a Southern novel first and foremost, but it’s value is in the telling of the inner lives and motivations of a difficult time for women- all of whom were considered one form of property or another. It’s a triumphant story well told. We’ve come a long way and, perhaps, we should acknowledge that and the participation of men who were “human” more than just “man” was an important element in the movement towards equality in society and in law.

Historia
“The Heron” is the nickname a big-city accountant has attached to himself in his new home near San Diego, where he’s using the alias to avoid a hit man who may be after him. It seems a former client believes that The Heron has skipped town with several million dollars not his own. Don Winslow’s ensuing, entertaining yarn is by turns twisty, dark, and comical as we observe the delicate dance between the pursuer and the pursued.

The story is very Twilight Zone-esque and Harris’s voice is perfect. I kind of wish the story was longer. That’s a good compliment.
