Historia
Surrounded and outgunned, a group of private military contractors known as “Strange Company” find themselves on a remote planet at the edge of known space, and on the losing end of a bad contract. Orbital D-beam strikes, dropships bristling with auto-guns, missiles, and troops - even Monarch space marines in state-of-the-art advanced battle rattle - will try to prevent the company from reaching the exfil LZ and getting off-world.

Great story but...
Revisado: 10-03-24
This otherwise great story is crippled by a superficial social analysis that incorporates silly modern day conspiracy theories. There are other details that don't make sense, like why future soldiers are fighting with essentially reskinned versions of current day balistic weapons. However, the narrator is excellent and helps one overlook the story's flaws

Historia
Nestled amid picture-perfect mountains, the idyllic town of Wayward Pines is a modern-day Eden—at least at first glance. Except that within its fences, the residents are told where to work, how to live, and who to marry. None of them know how they got here. Some believe they are dead. Others think they’re trapped in an unfathomable experiment. Everyone secretly dreams of leaving, but those who dare face a terrifying surprise. As sheriff, Ethan Burke is tasked with enforcing the town’s laws, and he’s one of the few entrusted with the truth.

Decent story, silly human drama
Revisado: 06-11-24
The story would be better without the contrived human drama involving marital infidelity on both sides of the 2000 year reanimation

Historia
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Historia
Ever since we produced our course Thinking About Capitalism, customers have expressed interest in a follow-up course that could help them understand socialism in the same way. After much consideration, we determined that it actually would be more beneficial to create a course that compares and contrasts the two major global economic theories, examining them in ways that move past the polemics many of us are used to and looking at these systems as they relate to one another and the world at large.

Narration is really bad
Revisado: 05-14-18
The narrator (Larry McKeever) is one of the worst I've encountered on Audible. My son happened to hear this book while I was exercising, and he joked by saying the guy was really going for a robot sound. But that's how Larry narrates nearly the entire book, with precious little bits of feeling/passion infusing his work with life. Thankfully Scott Brick has the narrative reigns again until the last chronological book in the series, where oddly enough Larry re-emerges to narrate again (!?). I'm sure Larry's a nice dude, but man his narration is really bad...look at his other narration reviews to see what I mean.

Historia
With a rare mix of honesty, humor, and compassion, comedian and movie star Russell Brand mines his own wild story and shares the advice and wisdom he has gained through his 14 years of recovery. Brand speaks to those suffering along the full spectrum of addiction - from drugs, alcohol, caffeine, and sugar addictions to addictions to work, stress, bad relationships, digital media, and fame. Brand understands that addiction can take many shapes and sizes and how the process of staying clean, sane, and unhooked is a daily activity.

Potentially life changing
Revisado: 02-14-18
One thing I like about his analysis on addictions is he moves beyond the usual suspects like alcohol & gambling addictions, and makes one ponder how any desire that exerts control in our lives that prevents us from achieving our full potential should be looked at carefully.
This approach ties in with one of my favorite meditation principles, which is the idea that we our NOT our thoughts & desires. To extend this idea further, my own thoughts are we are a soul housed in a human shell, and while this human shell provides us a wonderful vehicle for spiritual growth...it can also get in the way with distracting thoughts and powerful desires that can swing us toward unhealthy food, meaningless sex, etc.
Overall Russell provides a pragmatic way to identify & overcome addiction via the 12 Step program, and he sprinkles this method with meaningful spiritual insight he's learned along the way (which he humbly continually gives credit to others for).

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

Revisado: 09-08-17
This has become one of my new favorite books, which has an extremely important & timeless message for the human family.
As for the narration was...I found it a little dry. I'd like to see George Guidall narrate this work...I think he could infuse it with more of the emotion and passion it deserves.
