Historia
Rock and roll in the BC (Before Cooper) era was a tamer, milder world. In Who I Really Am, Cooper’s latest addition to Audible’s Words + Music series, we learn how the boa-wearing (not the feathered kind) maestro arrived at a show and sound - let’s call it AC for After Cooper - that has entertained millions of kids while terrifying parents in equal measure. Cooper drew inspiration from Saturday matinee horror movies, applied a "no such thing as too much" attitude, and hitched it to a kick-ass rock and roll band.

I have seen this man in creamsicle golf pants..
Revisado: 02-22-25
I have very much enjoyed Alice Cooper's music since high school. late '80s his stuff was edgy where I wanted to hear edgy early 90s he was one of the things that kept me from listening to grunge which I didn't understand anyway.
a few things to note about this book first of all vocally Alice is still in his prime. the sound of his voice has not wavered one iota since the first time I heard him speak.
I've been listening to a lot of autobiographies and rock and roll Memoirs of late and to hear it in the voice that I expect to hear spoken I have to speed up the playback sometimes as much as a quarter again to make it sound like the right voice. I had to double check to make sure I hadn't done this because his voice is just as sharp as it has ever been, his thinking and his speech just as quick he hasn't lost a step and that seems to be a thing amongst older rockers maybe partied a little too hard.
It's a stellar read and performance. This is the personality of the man who returned the beachball to the crowd at the Phoenix first screening of the Phantom Menace (to which we shouted back - we're not worthy!)
It's a fun recollection of a fantastic life!

Historia
In this intimate and open account—nothing like any rock-and-roll memoir you’ve ever read—Alex Van Halen shares his personal story of family, friendship, music and brotherly love in a remarkable tribute to his beloved brother and band mate. In his rough yet sweet voice, Alex recounts the brothers’ childhood, first in the Netherlands and then in working class Pasadena, California, with an itinerant musician father and a very proper Indonesian-born mother.

Revisado: 10-30-24
I know exactly what you mean about not feeling like they're gone. I have a "virtual" of my father permanently burned into my brain. Maybe this is what we see when we say we've seen a ghost. Whenever I need my father, he's there, in all his idiosyncratic quirks. Your means of expressing your love for your brother is as eloquent as your music has been. Thank you for sharing this.

Historia
In Rocks, Joe Perry exposes his unrepentant, unbridled life as the lead guitarist of Aerosmith. He delves deep into his volatile, profound, and enduring relationship with singer Steve Tyler and reveals the real people behind the larger-than-life rock gods onstage. The nearly five-decade saga of Aerosmith is epic, at once a study in brotherhood and solitude that plays out on the killing fields of rock and roll.

I'm wired for sound, so I played it back at about 1.35 speed. My version of it helped me picture the far back and away of Aerosmith in Joe's younger inflection and cadence. The visualization of his memory is as well described as a Tolkien forest. Excellent Read!

Historia
In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

Ray Stanz was played by Dan Aykroyd, not Bill Murray. Pretty much the ONLY thing that the author got wrong.
Seriously this book should be required reading for anyone who has an interest in joining the BDSM community. It is delivered with the new player in mind, and can do a lot to keep players safe in what can be a risqué lifestyle.

Historia
Using his legendary ability to get to the root of human potential, Napoleon Hill digs deep to reveal how fear, procrastination, anger, and jealousy prevent us from realizing our personal goals. This long-suppressed parable, once considered too controversial to publish, was written by Hill in 1938 following the publication of his classic bestseller, Think and Grow Rich. Annotated and edited for a contemporary audience by Rich Dad, Poor Dad and Three Feet from Gold coauthor Sharon Lechter, this book is profound, powerful, resonant, and rich with insight.

Revisado: 07-30-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I have already sent it to two people with Audible's awesome gifting service. The performances of Dan John Miller and Phil Gigante are STELLAR. I would have given the book a perfect performance score if not for the regular, nasally, abrasive, religion-laden commentary from someone who I don't actually believe really understands Napoleon Hill that well. She made a point of plugging her own books a few times before I was halfway done with it, and if I could hit a button to remove her from the audio track, I would do so in a heartbeat.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Anybody but Sharon. The Devil is masterfully represented in a non-religious way (except for when Sharon chimes in with her own twist) and I could seriously see the interview sections themselves being made into a very informative and entertaining film.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Not really a story, per se, and the narration in character was superb. Their performances were engaging, in the correct conversational tone, and even dipped in enough humor to make the mainstay of the book a delight.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If I had that kind of time, I would, but then I would need to read it again and perhaps again (which, in truth, I plan to do anyway) to really absorb everything the author is hoping to convey. The knowledge in this book is far in excess of its cost.
Any additional comments?
Sharon is the reason we say in radio that you should never let the client cut their own advertisement spots. She is too busy blowing her own horn and pushing her own agenda and her own philosophies to allow the book to be truly appreciated. I found I had to put the book down after every so many interjections because, truthfully, I was tired of telling my phone to shut up after every such chorus. Sharon, this is Hill's book, not yours. Try to remember the editor is supposed to be the writer's SILENT partner if you are ever given the opportunity to again work on such a significant project. Thanks.

Mace played by Lando?
Revisado: 09-26-15
Was it just me, of was a lot of Mark's "Lando" inflection slipping into his Mace portrayal. Mace sounded awfully southern gent in this one.
