I think I only got about halfway through when I realized I didn't want to waste the time to listen to the rest of it. It was so dull, could have possibly been better with a different narrator, but most likely not.

Could have been a good book, but for the ending.
Revisado: 06-03-23
I enjoyed the plot of this story, the characters, and the setting. Did not care for the ending. You had the listen so carefully to try to figure out who the killer was. I found it annoying in the end, which ruined the book for me. The ending is the most important part, and Rendell screwed it up. I felt like she wasted my time.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Heartbreakingly real and honest
Revisado: 05-15-23
Jennette McCurdy did a great job narrating this autobiography,, and it was very clear to me that she loved her Mom very much. I have to admit I couldn't stand her Mom. I thought she was a narcissistic, selfish, abusive, manipulative ass. Jennette loved and trusted her so purely that she would do anything to make her happy, including taking on an acting career that she never wanted, calorie restricting at her Mom's instruction, which developed into anorexia, and later on, bulimia. The invasiveness of the relationship bothered me, that Jennette never got to have privacy with the most private parts of herself around her mother, no autonomy over her life and her own body until her Mom died. And yet, you clearly see to the very end of the book that she loved her Mom dearly. Therapy and her own recovery have helped Jennette to move forward with her life on her own terms, without the negative influence of her mother. And no longer idealizing who her mother was, but seeing her for who she really was. The ending left me feeling happy for her being in recovery from her eating disorder and being free to live her life on her terms. Jennette wrote this book very thoughtfully. She is a very deep and intelligent woman. She has a gift for writing, and I hope to see more books by Jennette McCurdy in the future.

Underwhelming
Revisado: 09-17-22
I started this book because the title was intriguing. I have to be honest, I quit reading this book out of frustration a couple times. I was struggling to finish it because it was really dull. The characters were not very likeable, Mimi was flat out weird and disturbing, I kept hoping the story would become more exciting. It never did. The voice actors were this book's only saving grace. They were very good. But this author just didn't hit the mark in keeping the reader's attention and there was no momentum. For me, a great book gains momentum toward the middle and keeps building intrigue until the end. I kept waiting for it, but it never happened. I've read many good books recently, like Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak and The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. There are so many great authors in our time, but I just felt like this author has started to just push out the work, it's great she's making money, but what about the readers? Shouldn't you make it interesting for us, too?

Kinda boring, still a good read
Revisado: 09-08-21
This book is not your typical Rendell story. It's not full of colorful characters, just ordinary people trying to overcome everyday obstacles of living day to day, showing how they cope with said obstacles. But there was something also motivating to me about this book. Maybe it was Tim Curry's excellent narration. Let's face it, Tim Curry could read the phone book to you and make it sound interesting. Well, that was part of what kept me pressing on here. Another thing was I found these mundane situations and characters oddly relatable. Like I could be one of them, and oddly, I found myself weaning myself of an addition to an OTC medication I had been taking due to reading this ! There's one character that starts eating orange candies with artificial sweetener and finds himself addicted to them and then kicks his addiction. There was something oddly empowering in this story for me, because it's about most of us who are just trying to survive life in our own ways. Some of us finding ourselves forming unhealthy habits but finding the will to kick them, whatever they are. The little victories, which are what most of us have. Things that none else knows about except for us. Most of the time. I liked this book.

Intriguing and multi layered story
Revisado: 08-30-21
This was intriguing from the beginning to the end of the story, and I kept wanting to listen to more. I realized after I started this book and that I had read it before, but it had been a while. Everything seems normal and mundane in the beginning, like Teddy is just a normal person, a bit quiet. And the characters in the story, with their brilliant introduction by Rendell like only she could do. Chapter after chapter, I was intrigued by the narrator and her way of acting out the story. Along with the simple yet complex layering of the story and it's characters. You could understand each character and it was like you were inside their heads, understanding their thoughts and personalities. It's almost like seeing karma take it's effect on different characters. I don't want to give away too much of the ending but it's almost like you knew that was what should've happened. Like when you know someone is evil and you get to see them get back what they did to other people with something very similar happening to them.

Where does a moderately popular internet star who never leaves her house look for potential suitors? Online. Tinder, Bumble, Match.com, OkCupid - I tried them all. My 31-year-old self clicked and swiped her little heart out, leading to more dates than I could count, and more disappointment than I was prepared for. Maybe you can relate. Maybe you know all too well the perils of modern dating.

Bittersweet 💐😢 ❤️
Revisado: 10-17-20
I always liked Brittani since I started watching her videos on Youtube. Her positivity is infectious and intriguing. Boy, you never know what is happening to people behind that smile. This young lady fell victim to a sociopathic a**hole who practically killed her spirit with his lies and hateful/abusive attitude. It was bittersweet for me because there is a light of hope and a lot of good that came from that bad relationship. I think Brittani gained the best thing that's ever happened to her from being with that bad man. Her son <3 I am sad that someone would abuse such a lovely person, but so happy for her that she had a child who will be her best friend. I also really like her Mom who is a very supportive and loving parent. The true definition of what a mother should be. I also surprisingly learned some vital information about the legal system's ins and outs. And you also can't help but fall in love with Brittani's lawyer Jenny.

I am a big fan of crime mysteries, so I was really happy to discover this book. It's narrated by Kelsey Grammer, so you get to enjoy a bit of his dramatic performance thrown in for good measure. Definitely not rated PG I would give it more like an R rating. Overall I really enjoyed the story.
