A story of loyalty, love and perseverance

This is a story I really enjoyed. It comes with a big plot twist I wasn't expecting which made the attitude I felt towards a few of the characters completely flip and am now rooting for. This is a symphony of emotions where the characters ebb and flow like the tide of their surroundings, but what remains is loyalty, devotion, friendship and love. Part 1 ends with hope and I want to find out in the next audio how the paths of the 5 friends and partners will turn out.

I enjoyed Lia as a narrator. The voices were clean and distinct, although I wish there was a tiny bit more of a difference between the sisters as I didn't remember who's point of view was being addressed a couple of times. Editing was clean and the sound was even which was nice not having to adjust volume between chapters. I did have an issue with Michael's narration. He only did two chapters and found it odd that for a sideline character in this 1st book that he had his own narrator for his point of view. Akso, because the majority of the book was narrated by Lia, I already had the male characters persons in my head, and when he read, it threw me out of the story. I kept picturing slurry Sylvester Stallone in a robe. His voice was too deep for the characters; especially for Cyrus.

All in all, I'm looking forward to book 2!

A Sweet Western Story Within A Story

This was a fun western ranch story that is placed in a modern day lifestyle. The story follows a romance writer who needs inspiration for her book and a cowboy whose priorities are his daughter and managing his ranch while also taking advantage of his "assets" to help provide for his family's future.

I really liked the idea of Sage being the sexy rancher while giving confidence back to Sarah, who is self-conscious author that is more bold and assertive in her books than in her personal life. From a female perspective, many women want to be desired by the "unreachable" and to have that in story form gives a playful edge of "what if?" One of my favorite scenes in the story is the Wagon Train. The author, Verna, provided a fun section of material that makes me think she did a little research on her own in person to create this setting. It almost makes me want to find a dude ranch that does Wagon Train events during the summer!

Verna created a nice light-hearted romance that was just long enough for the story to provide enough "meat" and feel complete but not so overwhelming that this audio needed to be listened to over a period of several days. The audio and literary pace moved along smoothly. The Narrator, Wendy, did a great job on the voices. All the characters were believable and I could picture them to be realistic characters in their setting. Technical aspect of the audio was very good as well. There was no skipping, echo or repeating of words. This was a very clear recording.

All in all, this was a nice romantic story that left several assumptions to the imagination without having to go into descriptive detail. This would be a good audio and book for those who want something light, romantic and leave you feeling fulfilled.

I'm looking forward to listening to more of Verna's Stories and Wendy's characters.

Any additional comments?

This was an audio I'm still not completely sure about. It wasn't horribly bad, but it was very disjointed for an initial book in the series. There was a lot of setup dialogue that could have been reduced. It spends 2/3 of the book looking for one person but then when she is found it felt like no big deal. Vampires allude about themselves to the main girls in the story in a joking manner as though they should know all about them already and the girls play it off in an oblivious manner. Also, the main female character receives significant news about her family and it's treated in an "oh well" manner and let's move on. There was no romantic spark in this book whatsoever, so for it to be tied as a Romance series, it has not evolved into that genre at this time.

That being said, I do like the concept of vampire/alternative musicians, but would like for the author to focus on that side a bit more.

I enjoyed the narrator and her vocal variety with the characters. I pictured the cousin to be a whiny bimbo as other characters talked about her and the voice the narrator gave her fits perfectly. This is my first time listening to the narrator and would listen to other books she has narrated.

The book at the beginning has a 1-point narrative and about 2/3 through it separates between Christina and Slade. This might be one of the reasons why it feel so disjointed. I spent more than half of the audio listening to one perspective and then all of a sudden we get another perspective and I'm wondering why now are we hearing his voice? Why wasn't his story laced better throughout the book instead of playing catchup at the end?

I would like to listen to the 2nd book in the series to see more of a rounded-out and established cast and to find out why these characters are relevant to each other. Book 1 ends on a teaser/cliff-hanger as expected but I did want to feel more vested in these characters to help me be encouraged to listen to book 2. I'm not sure how many books are scheduled to be in the series, but I hope there is more connection between the characters sooner than later.

Nice to See a Female As The Hero

It was great to have a female hero saving the male figure but the title was a bit misleading. While the male lead character was a prince, or heroine is not a princess nor was she in peril. She was calm while assertive the entire time. That being said, it is a decent story that kept be engrossed the entire time.

I enjoyed the narration by the actress and she did well with the variety of characters.

A Sweet Story About Mail-Order Romance

The story was a nice light romantic drama that is based in the pioneering days of when the women out west were few and the need for women was more utilitarian-based to support the household friends and family.

Each of the main characters had self-doubt which made the book more about acceptance of themselves as well as acceptance of their partner.

The audio was good for light listening as the narrator had a calm and soothing voice. There was a time or two which I wish she had a little more inflection or urgency in her voice as there were a couple of instances where I didn't realize there was danger until mid-way through the section listening carefully to the actual contents of the story. There were no issues with the audio and content/chapters flowed smoothly.

All-in-all, I would recommend this audio for light story listening.

A Brief Rundown Of Piano Basics

This was an audio I was intrigued to listen and find out how one can teach piano without an actual book. I am a novice when it comes to piano, but do know a few basic items in regards to music so I wanted to use this as a comparison tool.

This audio would be best to listen in front of the piano in order to practice alongside the tutorial.

As an audio standalone to learn piano, it was a bit confusing and lacking in certain details. The main focus in one of the chapters is learning the music staff and notes. The visual description of the notes and staff alignment were not translated easily through audio, so if you do not know what a quarter note or a whole note looks like then the chapter will not make sense. Many times the narrator references what certain items look like "here" so it is obviously described visually in the book.

The narrator has a nice tonal voice and was energetic with the content. There were a few times where he spoke quickly. More pauses between sentences would have been easier to help process the technical information before going onto the next lesson.

This audio was helpful for me in learning acronyms for the notes, chords and gave good examples of starter songs to practice scales. This audio is one that will be good to listen to again in sections while practicing and is short enough to listen all the way through. I would suggest getting the book or if there are downloadable companion sheets to help with referencing, the audio would be a more complete tool for getting started in learning how to play.

This is by far my most favorite audiobook. I have listened to this several times. The immediate interaction of the actor voices told a much more vivid and complex story then the usual alternate chapters of male & female actors.

The storyline itself was wonderfully unique and Renea did a great job detailing characters thoughts, emotions and surroundings.

This was my first audio by the author and narrator and was very pleased with the overall story as well as narration. I enjoyed the multiple plot lines which was nice because as one layer was exposed, the story didn't feel it was at an end and was just using filler until the word limit was reached. The introduced characters felt well-developed and seeing how this is 1st in a series, I'm assuming there will be more development with some of the secondary characters. I fell in love with the relationship between Alec and his father, Walter and it was nice to see a strong bond from a male perspective.

The narrator did a good job with separating character voice from narration, however, the voice for Rebecca didn't sound like she was from Boston but from Jersey which then made it a bit grating for me. To be fair, I'm not familiar with south Boston accents so it could be spot on, but I kept picturing a short buxom gal wearing leopard print whenever this character was voiced.

All in all, this is a great start to a series and I would listen to the next story.

Any additional comments?

My 7 year old daughter enjoyed listening and was able to follow the plot without being confused or lost. The audio length was long enough to not make her restless in one sitting. The narrator did a great job with the variety of voices and each character was distinguishable. Looking forward to hearing more stories in this genre!

What did you love best about Winter Wonderland (A Romantic Short Story)?

A fast listen that was fun to go along with the story. It's cold where I am when I listened to the story so the imagery and setting were perfect. Voice of narrator was great. Would listen to a book by this author and narrator again.
