Historia
On a mountainside at the edge of the Kaigenese Empire live the most powerful warriors in the world, superhumans capable of raising the sea and wielding blades of ice. For hundreds of years, the fighters of the Kusanagi Peninsula have held the Empire's enemies at bay, earning their frozen spit of land the name "The Sword of Kaigen". Born into Kusanagi's legendary Matsuda family, f14-year-old Mamoru has always known his purpose: To master his family's fighting techniques and defend his homeland.

Timeless and timely
Revisado: 03-02-25
A powerful story that somehow ties in current problems into an legendary world that is between the past and the future, but somehow not now. This book deals with the interplay of grief and loss with resilience and hope, navigating power dynamics, and social problems, challenging dogmatic fundamentalism, and that while recognizing a need for structure. I was moved by the ability to forgive people that seemed beyond forgiveness and showing humanity that hides within an icy shell.

Historia
With a reporter’s eye and an insider’s perspective, Eric Garcia shows what it’s like to be autistic across America. Garcia began writing about autism because he was frustrated by the media’s coverage of it; the myths that the disorder is caused by vaccines, the narrow portrayals of autistic people as white men working in Silicon Valley. His own life as an autistic person didn’t look anything like that.

My PhD is in clinical psychology. I’m also autistic. I am just starting my career, but I’m confident that many of my peers, who will be part of the next wave of clinicians assessing autistic people, would benefit from reading this book. Thank you.

Historia
Paige Layle was normal. She lived in the countryside with her mom, dad, and brother Graham. She went to school, hung out with friends, and all the while everything seemed so much harder than it needed to be. A break in routine threw off the whole day. If her teacher couldn't answer “why” in class, she dissolved into tears, unable to articulate her own confusion or explain her lack of control.

Big fan of Paige, thanks for sharing your story!

I am a long time fan of the author. I am also an autistic/ADHD therapist recently earned my PhD in clinical psychology and this is frankly a better resource for understanding autism than most professional books on the topic that I’ve read so far. I think this should be required reading for people who plan on working with autistic/neurodivergent folks. I look forward to watching more of Paige's content on YouTube, and reading any books she writes in the future. I feel seen heard and understood. I hope others who read this book will feel similarly.

Historia
In Erin Brockovich’s long-awaited book — her first to reckon with conditions on our planet — she makes clear why we are in the trouble we’re in, and how, in large and practical ways, we each can take actions to bring about change. She shows us what's at stake, and writes of the fraudulent science that disguises these issues, along with cancer clusters not being reported. She writes of the saga of PG&E that continues to this day, and of the communities and people she has worked with who have helped to make an impact.

In this must-listen book for anyone striving to succeed, pioneering psychologist Angela Duckworth shows parents, educators, students, and businesspeople - both seasoned and new - that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent but a focused persistence called "grit". Why do some people succeed and others fail? Sharing new insights from her landmark research on grit, MacArthur "genius" Angela Duckworth explains why talent is hardly a guarantor of success.
